Crytek Demos Noir, a CRYENGINE Based Real-Time Raytracing Demo on AMD Radeon RX Vega – Can Run on Most Mainstream, Contemporary AMD and NVIDIA GPUs

Crytek has showcased a new real-time raytracing demo which is said to run on most mainstream, contemporary GPUs from NVIDIA and AMD.

The Noir demo has various scenes crafted within CRYENGINE and rendered in real-time on an AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 graphics card....looks stunning

this new CRYENGINE technology will be optimized to benefit from performance enhancements delivered by the latest generation of graphics cards and supported APIs like Vulkan and DX12.

it’s good news that more developers and a major engine would now allow ray-tracing with a more open-support to modern day graphics cards.

Hmmmm. Crytek "let the cat out of the bag", Now even Nvidia admits -- one does not need RTX card for ray-tracing smile

NVIDIA Enables DXR Real-Time Ray Tracing Support on GeForce 10 and GeForce 16 Series, GeForce GTX 1060 and Above – Drivers Available in April

GDC 2019, NVIDIA is now enabling another feature which was previously locked down to the newly released Turing GPU based graphics cards. That’s support for Microsoft’s DXR API which will enable real-time raytracing capabilities in existing and upcoming gaming titles

In fairness, one would assume an RTX card witl ray-trace better because of its special circuits. But, that assumption remains to be tested. We need a few ray-traced titles using the various ray-tracing methods on the market -- so we can comparison test.

Atari VCS [Gaming Console] Getting Its APU Upgraded to AMD Ryzen + Vega, Will Be Faster, Cooler and More Efficient

the console was originally meant to feature [an AMD] Bristol Ridge A10 CPU alongside a Radeon R7 GPU

The Atari VCS will now be powered by a 14nm AMD processor featuring high-performance Radeon Vega graphics architecture and two “Zen” CPU cores.

The new processor includes built-in Ethernet, Native 4K video with modern HDCP, and a secure frame buffer that fully-supports DRM video (Netflix, HBO, etc.).

The goal of Atari is to proceed with the shipments at the end of 2019

AMD is developing its PC APU chips (e.g. Ryzen 5 2400G) around gaming console chip designs. So, the PC version should work for a cheap gaming PC. My Ryzen 5 2400G HTPC does play all the games in my tests -- but we use it as an HTPC.

Stadia Is Google’s Cloud Based Game Platform; Powered by AMD, Linux and Vulkan, Due in 2019

after you’ve watched a gameplay video on YouTube, you’ll get the chance to play that game in just five seconds via streaming. That’s regardless of the platform you are using, be it a laptop, desktop, television, phone or tablet.

The hardware datacenters used for Google Stadia is powered by AMD technology and custom built for this use case. It surpasses the likes of PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X put together

While the Project Stream test showcased Assassin’s Creed Odyssey streamed at 1080p and 60fps, Stadia will be able to stream up to 4K HDR and 60fps gameplay with surround sound. The hardware will also be upgraded further over time to allow up to 8K and 120 frames per second

It does not require a console. Google did show a special hand held controller that may be optional.

AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs Get Early BIOS Support in X370 & X470 Motherboards, Next-Gen Zen 2 Based Family Internally Codenamed as Valhalla

Ryzen 3000 would have pretty solid compatibility on older X370 and X470 motherboards at launch. There would also be the X570 motherboards with an improved feature set for the Ryzen 3000 series CPUs but those who don’t want to get in the hassle of upgrading their motherboards can just swap their older CPUs with the new ones and call it a day.

the Ryzen 3000 series processors would indeed ship with CCD (Compute Core Design, a new name for CCX), support a maximum of 32 threads which confirms 16 core parts

AMD catches up to Intel in DIY building market

Expected to overtake

at least in the EU.

The figures were based on numbers in Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg and the Benelux which is now the second European market where AMD is crushing Intel.

Earlier, it was found that AMD has already overtaken Intel in Germany, both in terms of revenue as well as the number of units sold.

With the 7nm Zen2 processors on the horizon, AMD’s influence in the CPU market is sure to grow even further, and pressure will keep building on Intel to tune down its outrageous CPU pricing.

AMD releasing Navi 10 7nm GPUs this year. The high end Navi 7nm are rumored for 2020. Here's a preliminary rumor for 2020 GPU's performance.

Quote
AMD Navi 20 GPU To Be Featured on Enthusiast Grade Gaming Graphics Cards, Features Enhanced GCN Architecture and Ray Tracing Performance Equivalent or Faster Than an RTX 2080 Ti

rumors are alleging a launch of the first Navi based Radeon RX cards in mid of 2019 [Navi 10 under $300 rumored].

AMD Navi 20 GPUs [2020 launch] may end up being competitive or even faster than the competing NVIDIA GeForce RTX cards (Navi 20 flagship vs GeForce RTX 2080 Ti).

Of course, Nvidia will have their 2020 cards to compete.

AMD All Set To Capture 10% of the Total Server CPU Market by 2020, Report Indicates – Will Secure More Deals With 7nm EPYC CPUs Due To Strong Price / Performance Leadership

Cloud providers such as Amazon are continuously investing more EPYC platform rather than Intel Xeon CPUs.

Japan-based NTT Data will also be procuring datacenters with AMD EPYC processors. There’s also the upcoming Atos BullSequana XH2000 Supercomputer which will be using a total 3125 AMD EPYC Rome 7nm processors with around 200,000 cores and 400,000 CPU threads and is expected to finish by 2020.

AMD looks to be in a really good position with their EPYC server processors, even more so than their desktop and mobility portfolios.

AMD decided (years ago) to compete in the CPU market first. Probably did not expect to do this well. But, Intel had unexpected issues with 10nm. Meanwhile, AMD took a chance and jumped past 10nm to 7nm. This Summer, we'll see how well that worked out for gamers.

Competition is good smile

AMD Stock Soars Today After Analyst Predicts 7nm Market Share Increase

Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD 28.92 -0.34%) saw its shares soar during a mid-day spike after an analyst issued a “buy” rating ..citing a strong future for the company’s 7nm products.

David Wong is an analyst at Instinet and today he initiated coverage on AMD with a price target of $33 per share

In 2016, AMD stock was often selling for under $2 a share. Then it started upwards. Today, $10,000 worth of stock at a 2016 price of $2 would be worth over $144,000 (assuming no splits, etc). Not bad for 3 years of growth smile

Apparently, focusing on the CPU at the expense of the GPU is paying off -- literally.

TSMC 5nm Risk Production Starts; Process Delivers 15% Performance Gain

TSMC’s 5nm Process Delivers 1.8X Logic Density And 15% Performance Gain When Compared To 7nm

TSMC, in collaboration with its design partners, has validated its 5nm design through silicon test vehicles.

TSMC’s 5nm is directed primarily towards 5G and IoT [cell-phone type] applications instead of [CPUs] for the time being.

The interesting thing is that 5nm gives almost twice as many "cores" (logic density) as 7nm -- but only 15% more speed. So, long term, CPU clock rates will not change a lot from what they are this Summer when AMD releases 7nm CPUs.

The author speculates that Navi GPU may be closer than we think.

AMD Navi Preliminary Support Added To HWINFO As AMD Gears Up For Launch

AMD’s Navi GPU, the first non-GCN GPU, is ready for launch

we do know this will be the first GPU architecture capable of breaking the 4096 SP limit imposed by the GCN macro arch. This is exciting stuff because it will put AMD back in the GPU game.

We are also pretty sure that AMD will be launching the Navi GPU very soon (more on this soon, stay tuned) which is why if you are someone who is still on an old RX 480/580, wait just a little bit longer and you will have the perfect card to upgrade too.

The first 7nm Navi GPU is not expected to be the high powered one -- costs under $300 we've been lead to believe. Moreover, previously we were told to expect Navi in late Summer. This article hints it will be sooner. But, all is speculation now.

AMD Holding Partners Summit On April 23 – 7nm and Navi On The Agenda

We have learned that certain partners and AIBs will have a lot of information revealed to them at a Partners Summit that is happening around April 23 later this month. I am told that 7nm chips and Navi are on the agenda

We have heard nothing on NVIDIA’s 7nm GPUs so far

Intel’s equivalent 10nm process is slated to land sometime in 2H 2019

Hopefully, after the Partners Summit, there will be some solid "leaks" and less "speculation" in the follow on news articles.

AMD works closely with TSMC on 7nm.

TSMC Ramps Volume Manufacturing For 7nm Using EUV Scanners, Expects 5nm By 2020

[TSMC] high-performance 7nm parts hit the market in 2H 2019 through AMD (Intel’s equivalent 10nm parts are expected to arrive later by the end of 2019). They have even started risk production of 5nm parts and expect volume production by 2020.

TSMC expects almost all of its 7nm capacity to be fully utilized by the third quarter of 2019. Apple will take the biggest bite out of its 7nm capacity with Qualcomm and AMD following behind. This does mean, however, that AMD’s 7nm parts will be facing supply issues during 2H 2019

We'll see if 7nm "supply issues" lead to AMD price increases towards the end of 2019. If one is cost conscious, it may be good to buy the 7nm AMD CPUs & GPUs when they hit the market (assuming they perform) and not wait for the usual price drops.
