Sounds like OnLIve from 8(?) years ago. I wonder if Google just bought them out to do this?
OnLive was cloud based gaming with sharing options well ahead of its time. Worked very well, even at bandwidth back then.

No need to buy that new console after all dammit ... Google bought it for me.

"The company has promised the service will offer games at 4K resolution, at 60 frames per second (fps) - and up to 8K, 120 fps in future."

Pricing will be interesting. Netflix level at $10 a month / 120 year? I'd guess they'd go double that knowing that even casual gamers will go much higher because

Console: $400 spread over 3 to 4 years, say $130 year
Games: say 2-3 year @ $40, so $120
Total for a casual gamer: $250 year

So they can even go $15-20 a month and argue people are still better off - lower cost, more titles, no hardware to worry about.

If it was my product I'd tier it - basic subscription $15 for limited number of games, $20 for unlimited and/or premium titles. Not to mention Google will drive a lot of profit from advertising on or data harvested via the platform too (of course).

Assuming the technology delivers = ka-ching

H

I can't see the interest. Google is starting from scratch. MS already owns now what, 14-18 Gaming studios. You can get a lot of games through XBOX GamePass.
If anything, it may make MS come off their pricing...

If Google really pulls this off it will be a very serious competitor to Steam, UPlay and Origin.

Sounds OK for basic gaming, assuming your bandwidth is OK. For games that benefit from modding though?

Those are valid points and I also don’t see too many hardcore PC gamers and especially flight simmers to make the switch but the general mainstream gamer market? Absolutely.

are you serious? go play on a pc, this is a boom to devs, imagine you having acess to so many players who wouldnt afford a pc, or be locked to X console..... now they also dont need to struggle with hardware limitations of a box made to sell on the cheap. This will bring so many new players.
also be warned that this is a VIDEO stream, so it has youtube compression, you may play at 4k but its not pristine sharp unless you play at a smaller screen, also its reported that current version used 300gb for 50h of ac odyssey at 4k60ps.
but again, this is not for pain in the ass gamers like me,most people who watch movies on a phone will be more than forgiving to the quality specially people who already watch streaming videos.

another benefit is for online games, there will be no hacking for that precise reason

I played Dirt 2 with OnLive years ago and it was easily playable, no noticeable lag and looked great. That was on basic 2010 DSL, certainly didn’t have the ping I later had on cable and now fiber. I see no reason this can’t work great on that level.
The trick will be what does it cost, can you play more complex games requiring kb/m or does it have to be controller or touchpad friendly, can you play new titles on release and how big is the library.
The tech isn’t the hurdle here.

Benefit I see is, stream type of service is an extreme platform where you can finally eliminate a cheater......... and you can still use "mouse" unlike PS4 xbox's mouse emulator.
I really hope this platform is isolated from PC platform... this is important.

Cheating software bussiness on PC games has gone too far that F2P games that is especially first person shooting games are now just full of cheating environment without risk for a cheater.(Recently announced APEX for example)
You buy 200000000$ dollar video card and cpu and what you see is full of cheater around you on multiplayer.

Vienna, 2nd rock left.
I hate it.

Anything that takes control and ownership away from the gamer and gives it to faceless, lawless mega-coporations is a bad thing in my book.

I don't want a future where every bit of entertainment is charged by the minute. But that's what Google and Apple want to build (and Microsoft too, I guess).

Really worried about this trend. Operating Systems, Office Applications, now Games - "Software as a Service", making your everyday digital life totally dependent on whoever provides the "service", additionally giving them millions of data points every day about what everyone is doing, when, where, and how long. And if you lose access to your account (centralized account as already in place) you lose access to everything.

Stadia can be played on pratically any device with internet and a screen, but if your intention was other, there were rumours from years ago and seemed confirmed by the ms leaked email that the next xbox will move to stream service as addon to the normal experience, funny enough sony aquired a company with this tech back in 2010....but they seem in no hurry......

I'll check it out when it drops but obviously they are going to be cashing in and targeting kids and the big mainstream type games that don't really interest me. I've already got a ton of games on Steam, uplay etc that i never play so i suppose i can another dead app to my desktop biggrin My ps4pro i bought late last year is also already gathering dust.

I do play on a PC, as do most of us here probably. It was a simple enough observation smile

Sure, benefits for everyone, sounds great. Personally I probably won't be interested in the vast majority of those games. But for those that are, sure great idea.

This is a major key point. Google is too big to go after a small, niche gamer crowd (ie people like us on SimHQ). This new Stadia Cloud will be well received by the majority of mainstream gamers who are already heavily used to gaming on smartphones and tablets and who already stream all forms of media.
