With Ray's new stuff I have re-assembled things, starting with the new but adding some old favourites.

I notice two SPAW planes folders - SPAW Planes and SPAWPLANES.

If you're not going to honor my request to remove the old models at least make it clear which is which.

There are planeset files linked to the "SPAWPlanes" folder that we use online and have done so for several years, and I am not prepared to give them up. I just flew a mission at GameRanger using a planeset that has my brother's Avenger, and MB-3 MkIIb, neither of which are available in your new planeset files frown

[Linked Image]

I can also guarantee that if I choose "06-SPAW torpedo loadout" and fly online escorting an AI Kate to attack an allied carrier then the Kate will carry torpedoes, and go through the correct torpedo release routine.
Similarly if I escort an Avenger to attack a Japanese carrier then the Avenger will have torpedoes.
[Linked Image]
This is not my best screenie, but you can see the torpedoes bottom left

I do not intend to edit the loadout files again to make things like this possible online.

I can also guarantee that if I use the "04-SPAW & FAA Avenger" planeset and escort an Avenger online then it will will have bombs and go through the dive-bomb routine:

Not from the folder we use for multiplayer until the new ones are 100% compatible.
You need to test your FMs in host only multiplayer mode to make sure they work as intended.
The main thing is to ensure that escorted bombers have the correct loadout in multiplayer missions, and that they behave accordingly in terms of torpedo launch or dive bombing as I have shown in the case of the Avenger.

I just did a test escorting your NZ TBFs attacking a Jap carrier. They dropped torpedoes from over 800 feet altitude as though they were bombs. Most hit the water and were destroyed. A few hit ships and destroyed them.

Screens look great!
I have recently returned to EAW and have installed 1.60
I have been trying to run it in campaign, single player mode but have regular CTD's I assume it is meant as a more 'online' version?
I have also installed Game Ranger and was wondering if there is a common day and time for online? I cant say i will always be there but i would like to try.
I used to fly with the 352nd and quite enjoyed the coop missions...

Please let me know the fine details of the CTDs. The exe that you are using (including the date if any), the planeset, the theatre and the mission details.
Campaign mode normally needs a theatre and a planeset close to the original theatre for which the campaign files were made.

Okay,

Using Mediterranean 2018V2 and DAW planeset 4 Feb10tholdmap.exe and Feb10thnewmap.exe
also Using Default 1.2 theatre and BOB-1940 original plane set and Feb 10oldmap.exe
Spaw as well though i didnt write down what i was using.....

sometimes it will CTD when starting AC and somtimes partway threw mission. there seems to be no defined time or action that causes it on my part.

Thanks for the help. I installed as posted on your thread. I could just as well be hardware related.

This is odd because I didn't do anything to the FM's or loadouts on the vast majority of aircraft. They are the same as the FM's in the old aircraft inventory. Maybe a few tweaks to bomb loads and such but nothing that would affect what you're seeing.

Also, I tweaked some damage data, guns with flashes out of place, max altitude settings and other stuff like that and of course, I added new FM's and loadouts for the new planes. The screenshots you are showing are old planes so I'm not sure what's going on.

You could try copying over the data in an old FM folder to a corresponding new FM folder to see if the problem goes away.

FWIW, I'm not sure how to edit the loadouts for online game play. I've never done that, you have.

Is it in the 1st or 2nd part of the loadout data? Or is there a separate set of FM's because I thought I've seen some torpedo bomber FM folders that are for online play.

Well, im thinking its a hardware issue. It doesnt seem to matter what i do. I am going to try a 1.29 install, strait up and see if that will maintain without CTD for me. I wouldnt worry over it too much. Thanks for helping out. I am still interested in trying online sometime.....

Where are you located?
I'm in France and I fly with ShoGun who is in the US, and anyone else who rocks up. There's about a six hour time difference, so my late afternoons are ShoGun's mid-mornings and that suits us both

Ray
It is the "loadmis.dat" file
AFAIK if you escort an AI bomber then the bomber takes the appropriate loadout for a bombing mission.
I have a planeset named "06-SPAW torpedo loadout" and another named "30-ETO late Ju88A torpedo" to guarantee torpedoes online (or offline in escort missions)

wink Jel.

The Jap torpedo bombers have pretty simple loadouts. One torpedo or one 250KG or 500KG bomb.

The Loadmis.dat file is pretty simple too.

Nothing for escort or sweep missions, the bomb for bombing and interdict missions and the torpedo for torpedo missions.

I don't know what to change to make the correct loadout show up.

Did you get a chance to try the flight data from the old package?

Not yet. I have been rearranging the GR folder and compiling a new pair of "multiplayer only" exes for use at Gameranger.
I'll have look later after more online sessions.

This is where the difference is.

If you fly escort online the exe assumes that the friendly bomber is doing a bombing mission, and gives it bombs. It never gets torpedoes.
The same with an intercept mission. The enemy AI bomber is bombing and gets bombs, never torpedoes.
This is why I gave the Kate and the Avenger torpedo only loadouts. This required a different loadout files, and therefore different planesets.

I even gave them skip bomb loadouts. This is from my SPAWPlanes folder:
[Linked Image]

...and here is the relevant "PDir.set" file:
[Linked Image]

If I have the torpedo only planeset loaded then I make sure that the target for an escort or intercept mission is a ship.

I just decided to use the "skipbomb" planeset in an escort mission of Kates carrying skipbombs

[Linked Image]
Note that the "pname.str" file has "(SkipBomb)" in its name for clarification smile

You can see the splashes of the skipping bombs and the explosion where there was a hit

So this method is a bodge which requires an entirely different plane set to fix.

As I understand it, the exec knows to select the proper loadout based on the Loadmis.dat file offline but online it doesn't. Seems to me that is something worth looking at.

Although, to be honest, if online and offline players are comfortable with having plane sets specific to their preferred gaming type I guess it's OK.

A couple of questions:

Related -

Have you added all the modified Torpedo planesets that you need?

Unrelated -

Did you make any planesets with the MB-3?

I will check, but I think that the problem occurs offline too.
What I suspect is the case is that If an Avenger has bombs for bombing missions and torpedoes for torpedo missions and you fly escort then the exe assumes that the Avengers are on a bombing mission and get bombs, never torpedoes. It is the escort missions that generate the problem. I do not think that there is code to determine the mission type of the secondary plane.

I have not done any more since yesterday and we are heading out on a warm sunny day smile
