SAME... but you need to make sure the HUD is in ANALYSIS mode instead of COMBAT mode (looks iike you have done that since you got the "X bodies in Orbital Plane") THAT's the NEW HONK...
AND YES, you can fly toward a FRIEND in system... We could Wing Up and use Beacons as well, though Winging up is not necessary.

I ended up not bringing a Cargo Rack which I regret since there are lots of Guardian ARTIFACTS that are probably useful SOMEWHERE for SOMETHING that I could have brought onboard. Maybe they are useful at the same site for other Blueprints. I should have farmed the materials from the Panels while I was driving around aimlessly. Didn't know if you had to do that in a particular ORDER so I didn't go around blasting everything as usual

Honk & scan will get you the system layout & planetary makeups (after much rebinding of functionality...) but you'll need to make a detail surface scan of the planet in order to get the precise location yes? Which means once you've identified the planet, you'll need to approach it & do the firing probes thing?

Yeah. I almost never take a DSS except when searching Rings for Void Opal Hotspots. In this particular case (Guardian site) the Site Marker pops up automatically as you near the planet. No need for DSS for that purpose, but, of course useful for other things and more exploration credits.

Hmm, might be a simplification for gameplay :/ On the other hand, if that site is giving off an active signal I'd expect the FSS would pick it up. So maybe it's cool

Well, the old scanner used to do that too, scan a body when close (100 light seconds?) so the new one is pretty much the same with the addition of the FSS. I remember the FIRST TIME I went to DAV's HOPE and had to fly around trying to find the right COORDINATES...

I believe the honk will reveal the Guardian site as a POI. But, you must be within a certain distance from the planet for it to show up in the Nav panel.

I like the 0/90/180/270 system
The idea is you travel on one of these headings. If traveling on 0(360) your latitude will increase. If on 180 latitude decreases.
Conversely, flying on 90/270 will increase/decrease your longitude only.
Any compass point 'in the middle' of these cardinal points has the effect of changing both latitude and longitude, making precise navigation to a specific co-ordinate more difficult.
So I chose one of those directions, doesn't matter which, and flew until either the long or lat is correct. Then turn 90 degrees and fly until the other one matches as well. You have arrived at your destination. Or at least that's how I did it. I'm sure this isn't new to most here.
I have DSS on this ship and on most ships as well. I need explo data as that's my closest to going Elite. Maybe I can grab some on this trip.

Jeesh I didn't realize that if you stayed in the ship it would move you. I need to read more carefully. BUT if you leave your ship in SRV and log out while in SRV your ship stays where you put it. Important because of coverage using PD's.
Someone has to 1st be at the altar getting those two pylons to rise. Then the others will come up as you approach them. Seeing the site in bright daylight was a treat. Would be so much easier locating those pylons then. Alas I'm not hopeful we'll have that for our runs. No matter we'll get it done.
DBond leave from where you are now if it's closer. We spoke briefly about Hud Mode. There is "Combat Mode" and "Analysis Mode" When you travel just use the Analysis Mode and honk the system as you scoop. When in the Analysis Mode have the FSS assigned to #1 in fire group. Scoop and pull trigger at the same time.
Due to the jump variances traveling together would not work well in my experience.
See you at 630 Thursday. Yeah. Honestly I expected to end up in orbit. Was pretty happy to be nearby at all, though not close enough for PD. I guess I should have exited in the SRV....was afraid it would send me many km away. Had I known it was only a few hundred meters..... oh well..

LOL.. so late last night I went in and tried to move my ship closer. I could NOT find the landing spot that I had previously and ended up finally finding a spot that was farther away than the original, but closer than the relocated spot. Its still in the middle of the ruins, so maybe close enough for PD's. I went out in the SRV before exiting, so it should stay there, and hopefully my SRV isn't too far away. If necessary I can try to move the ship tonight.

I flew out to this system last night and did detailed surface scans on every body. The arrival distance to the target planet kept me from checking it out. Will do that tonight. See you there!

Which means once you've identified the planet, you'll need to approach it & do the firing probes thing? Now that I've used these scanners and new mechanics, I want to revisit this. A "Detailed Surface Scan", or what used to be done by the DSS is now done when you use FSS. It gives you the info the DSS used to like composition, mass, tidal lock status, temperature and so on. So unless I am wrong, a Detailed Surface Scan only requires you to run it through the FSS now. This should be what you need to have the POIs pop. Is this correct? The actual DSS (this should be renamed to avoid confusion PMM or Planetary Mapping Module or something, I purposely avoided PMS :)) needs you to approach the body, but instead now should be called 'mapping' (probes). I am assuming this is not required to find POIs. Can anyone confirm?

From my limited experience using the new FSS and DSS, (I never used the OLD DSS) I would agree with you. I never needed the DSS to find POI's.

I read somewhere that you need to DSS the planet to find POIs. However I also suspect that some points of interest, specifically those that have an active emission, can be captured by the FSS while geologic and bio POIs (and maybe even some dead tech), won't.

Also agreed.. Geologic formations, useful in finding abundances of surface elements for collection need mapping with the DSS aka PMM

Thanks all.
Not long now. I am excited to kick this thing off. Hoping I don't get blown up. Bohemond, are you coming on this trip? Fancy some top cover? Lots of guys destroy the sentinels from their ships, or so I've read.
Who is planning on being part of this trip?
Recluse, Wingy, me and who else?
