Plot from wikipedia:

"In the future, the Sun has aged and is about to turn into a red giant, pushing the nations of the world to consolidate into the United Earth Government, a world government, to initiate a project to move the Earth out of the Solar System to the Alpha Centauri system....."

That's just too far fetched for me. I like my sci-fi to be a bit more "sci" and a little less "fi".

The sun isn’t scheduled to become a Red Giant for at least another 5 billion years. If humanity hasn’t figured out how to colonize other planets by then, that would truly be a sad state of affairs!

If you're interested in reading some sci-fi concerning moving a planet that does use sci rather than fi, try Moving Mars by Greg Bear. Method of moving is... not what you might imagine.

Wasn’t there also a moving planet (or asteroid) in Bear’s Eon?

It was an asteroid, moved from the asteroid belt into Earth orbit due to unforseen consequences of a future event.
