I did a Bourbon Street Mardi Gras once in the mid-80's (waved to John Ritter, Bacchus Parade). Saw lots of boobs (1980's...natural and untatted) and even a couple of bushes. Mild and family-friendly parades around the 'burbs of N.O. and throughout the state.
I have no idea what it's like today (most recent I've seen was on "Cops").

This is the float my son was on, weather was terrible so had left the camera at home, just the phone.

They are commenting on the amount of noise the F-35 makes compared with the F-16. The Karnival has a long tradition here going back hundreds of years, they make fun and satirical comment on what is current. One of the other floats made comment that the newly elected council were dictators like Kim Jong-un. My daughter was standing beside me as that float went past and she did not look too happy

I didn't even know they had a version of Mardi Gras ("Karnival Stoet") in the Netherlands. I knew that Brazil was the Carnival Capital, but I learned something new today.

This year wasn't that big and the weather was bad, we have had storms over the weekend and trees down here, so it was a pretty low turn out.
Part of the celebrations is that they, on the floats, hand out sweets and food stuff to the poor and needy, they still have one of the floats that has a kitchen in it and they make buck-wheat pancakes with bacon and hand them out.
Mardi Gras is a world wide tradition and seems to be part of the catholic traditions too, it was not part of the traditions where I come from though, The Netherlands is mainly protestant and they have the Carnival too. We had a Gala procession in our town in Scotland but it is at the end of July and usually coincided with the start of the Trade's Fortnight (when tradesmen traditionally have their summer vacation) and the other contrast is that the floats collect money for charity from the onlookers.
There are other "Stoets" like in Bree they have a Licht Stoet at night where it is a festival of floats all lit up with very fancy light shows,

I wonder when women started bearing their breasts at the New Orleans Mardi Gras? 1980's? 1990's? I'd be curious to know.

Why does the F-35 in the float have US markings instead of Belgian markings?

Thanks for clearing that up, Alicatt. I admit, that while I know the general area on a map, the details sometimes get a little fuzzy (depending on how long it's been since I've last looked over the area). But this even happens to me with some US locations, especially in the N.E. (not right now because it's fresh in my mind as I'm about to travel it).

Exposure by women A topless woman at a coffee house, Mardi Gras event in New Orleans, 2009
Women exposing their breasts during Mardi Gras in New Orleans, USA, has been documented since 1889, when the Times-Democrat decried the "degree of immodesty exhibited by nearly all female masqueraders seen on the streets." The practice was mostly limited to tourists in the upper Bourbon Street area.[26][27] In the crowded streets of the French Quarter, generally avoided by locals on Mardi Gras Day, flashers on balconies cause crowds to form on the streets.
In the last decades of the 20th century, the rise in producing commercial videotapes catering to voyeurs helped encourage a tradition of women baring their breasts in exchange for beads and trinkets. Social scientists studying "ritual disrobement" found, at Mardi Gras 1991, 1,200 instances of body-baring in exchange for beads or other favors.[27]

Wow, 1889? Now that's a genuine shocker. Thanks for that info!

Around here Fat Tuesday is known as Pacski Day. The bakery's in Hamtramk Mi. usually have people lined up around the block at 5 A.M. to get their stuffed jellied doughnuts sprinkled with powdered sugar. Brave souls this morning, the wind chills were minus 5.
What I saw on "Cops: Mardi Gras" was that the police patrol the French Quarter on horses and foot, mainly trying to keep people traffic (roads are closed to cars) flowing as much as possible (pickpocketers are opportunists), breaking up fights and nabbing shoplifters. They allow boob flashing on balconies, but there are understood rules that limit how long you can expose yourself to the crowd (a few seconds at a time) and also how long you can keep flashing before going inside for a small break. In other words, they ask the flashers to use discretion with getting too much attention and causing a jam in the traffic flow.
They're really patient with all the drunk people, but after so many requests and then warnings, they can shut down your balcony.
I don't think full nudity is allowed but you see it. You can usually tell by someone wearing a trench coat that they're going to flash the crowd at some point (both sexes, and who knows what nowadays).

As a side note...
Back in the day (any evening, not just Mardi Gras time of year) you'd roam the French Quarter (mainly Bourbon Street) with your drink and get eyefuls of strippers as you walked by the open doors, a way to window shop the strip clubs. I was always with my wife so I stayed on the sidewalk using much head/eye discretion. Not long ago they were trying to pass a law to make them close the doors, but I don't know how it turned out. Last time I 'looked' I had lost interest anyway, the girls were no longer totally nude and well, I'm still in the 80's and the world (and women) have moved on. Or maybe I've just outgrown that nonsense.
Still love walking the Quarter with my wife though, drink in hand. It has an old-fashion style but fun sleaziness about it.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.
Love the video, impressive. "Ghost Riders in the Sky" @7:20 (although I don't understand the language), hell yeah!

The German city of Cologne has a large and famous carnivale.
