I am looking to purchase a WWII Flight Combat Simulator for my PC.

• Intel Xtreme I9, 6 dual 347 GHZ Processors 12 individual
• ]Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, SP1
• 12 GB Memory
• ATI FirePro V5800 graphics card
• 2 solid state disks
• 2 Dell 27" Monitors DVI attached, resolution, 2560x1440, Dell-U2700
• 12 USB 2.0 ports

I have just received of an X56 Rhino HOTAS system with joystick and throttle which I plan on using with the FS I install.

I have been told by another member that EAW would be g good choice and I need some help getting started. I would be a single player using the software and would prefer to not have to be connected to a web site while playing.

1. Where can I either purchase the entire package from or download the software and documentation.
2. I understand that it needs patches for run on my version of windows, where can I get them.

I am anxious to get into the air and hope you folks can get me started.

Please help me get started,

Kindest Regards,
Henry Morse
Former Marine

Henry, for a start, you can keep your money in your pocket or donate it to a worthy cause. The latest manifestation of the game can be freely downloaded from this site-just go to the '1.60 Rationalisation and Installation' sticky at the top of the EAW forum.

From my experience, version 1.60 can be installed and run on Windows 7 Home 64 bit, without difficulty. Pro is likely the same. There may be some little discolouration in some of the display screens, but the game in the actual 3-d should run fine.

Bear in mind that this is not a 'screenshot sim'. It has inferior graphics to most of its current competitors, but still looks well, in an old-fashioned way. In compensation, it is the most authentic replication of the reality of WWII air-combat available, IMHO. It was a great game from the get-go, but a myriad number of modders, some still about, many forgotten, have contributed to a sim that offers a challenging, non-cheating AI, a believable set of flight and damage models and an unmatched general atmosphere. In every sim I have tried since, I have come to realise that, in all the other iterations, I was simply looking for another EAW. So, I have returned to the motherlode. You have nothing to lose by trying it.

There are no nasty security things with this game. Just download it and you should be able to install, start and fly very quickly.

There is a great information site run by MarkEaw. Just search some of the recent posts for a link.

And welcome.

I just went through part 1 and part 2. It put everything in my Downloads folder. Should it be relocated?

When both part completed and tried to launch eaw.exe I got an error message. "Program cannot start because d3d.dll missing.

Don't install it in your 'Programs' or 'Programs86' (is that what it's called?) folders. I put it into a C:/Games/European Air War pathway. Russ' suggestion is worth considering, too

Copied from the sticky:

*****************************************************************************************
Part 1 is here:
160InstallationPart1

It is a 7-zip self installer.
When you run it it creates a "UAW160" folder, which has the minimum files and folders for a working installation test.
If you run the "eaw.exe" (maybe with your own "eaw.ini") it should give you the UAW default ETO theatre and aircraft.
This will be a test to see if your system works smile
*****************************************************************************************
Did you do the test before getting part two?

Also, the self installer you download fror part two needs to be run in the "UAW160" folder which is created when you run the part 1 self installer wink
