I've not heard anything about ArmA 4 yet.

BI have said its pulled most of its team of arma3 to "work on" arma4, but nothing more solid than that.

It may also be on the new engine.

I have got everything that Arma has put out... bought Arma 3 but just could not go for this futuristic environment they put it in... if it is going to continue to follow that road I don't think I will get Arma 4.
If they were to put it in a cold war scenario again it would be a day one purchase for me... but I doubt that will happen. Still, I have Arma 2 for that!

Isn't that what mods are for???? Seriously the one primary thing that BI has done for us over the years is make the OFP/ArmA series pretty much the gold standard for mod ability in a game. They even go so far as to push the players to make amazing content. Heck there are even guys making mods for Arma 3 that have sailing ships and for us US based players our War of Independence from the British Empire. Nevermind the fact that there are HALO mods, even a semi-current space mod for sabotaging enemy satellites in orbit. Honestly the vanilla Arma 3 game is not a bad experience when you add in things like ACE 3 Medical with KAT - Advanced Medical and some other pieces such as ITC Land Systems. But yeah in 2013 it was a little far fetched to have a thought of a game based in 2035 but hmmmm here we are in 2019 and 2035 doesn't really seem that far away but then again it didn't to me back in 2013 either.

I saw a job announcement on the BI website about a year ago that specifically listed Arma 4 in the job description with talking about working with the Enfusion engine...same one they built for DayZ Standalone. So yeah its being worked on just not announced. With the flurry of Arma 4 wishlist videos last year before E3 2018 I was sure we would have seen an announcement of the game then but now I am guessing it will be at least one more E2 cycle before we get news of another Arma game.

Yes I know all about mods... the trouble is, as a SP guy it's the content that is needed like campaigns and missions in abundance for those mods.

The problem is also for a Co-Op guy as myself (I'm also a SP guy as well).
All players plus the Server needs to have the same mods to play any multiplayer mode (including Co-Op) and not to mention that it takes a lot of time to have mods that have similar quality models as the stock models and much longer even to get complete mod packs with a complete set of models/vehicles/units/weapons. For example, you have mod packs that have a great weapons such as assault rifles but lacks launcher for example, or have vehicles such as MBTs but without interiors, etc, etc, etc...
For example, RHS USAF (IMO, one of the best mod packs that model modern US Forces) doesn't have MLRS.

Speaking of mods, it took SEVERAL YEARS to have my ArmA3 install with what I consider to be the "minimal" number of modern day models/vehicles/units/weapons that can mostly replace the Arma3's stock futuristic stuff.

Anyway, I'm with Trooper117 - if ArmA 4 is again about a futuristic setting then it's a NO-BUY for me as well.
For example I only purchased ArmA 3 during last year due to the same reasons above.

Needless to say, the ArmA series would have died off a long time ago had it not been highly moddable.

Amen.

So what would you guys prefer to see A4 simulate?
I'm hoping for a Korean setup with 2nd Marines and their long struggle - from landings to mountain mayhem up north.
MiG15 and Sabre and one prop.plane each side is Ok for me (mod groups will surely add naval air in no time).
Primitive helicopters best not to board smile

dreams..

Agree with Meatshield. I think ArmA 4 should be set in WWII. At least make the 5 major adversaries of the war playable (Italy can be a later DLC!). I'd pay good money for that.

Personally I would prefer Vietnam.

IMO, there has never been a good first person tactical/milsim about Vietnam. The closest was Vietcong but while cool it definitely wasn't anywhere as close in terms of realism as the ArmA series are.

Moreover, one of the best type of vehicles modeled in ArmA and definitely (IMO) the best type of air vehicles in ArmA are the helicopters. WWII don't have helicopters, so one would miss what IMO is one of the best features of ArmA if it models a WWII setting. But of course not in the case of Vietnam. It would be a blast flying with Hueys supporting guys on the ground - ArmA definitely allows that.

Also, I don't have any problems at all with M-16's and/or AK's.

I guess that if someone doesn't want M-16's or no US Forces and have limited AK's then an African conflict of the Cold War era could IMO be chosen. There's lots to chose from, even with Helicopter operations such as the South African Bush Wars, or the Portuguese Colonial Wars, etc, etc, etc...

the thing that makes me cringe about vietnam with arma is the AI ... i dont think their new engine actually fixes any AI stuff and is mainly a graphics upgrade etc etc

a 60s/80s era african "bush war" would be pretty interesting, you'd have everything from ww1 stuff to modernish 80s to potentially place with!

I can certainly understand the reluctance to wait years for desired Mod content.

But re: everyone on a server having the same mods, it seems rare that groups that play together use one mod for a specific rifle, another for a specific MG etc. They use mod packs, such as Unsung or Faces of War.

Personally with my new PC in hand (hand? Desk?) I am installing A3 right now and yes I am unhappy with having to reinstall my mods too, but it's the nature of the beast , for better or worse. Once those mods are set for a scenario in SP or online session, is it really so hard to grab a few mods and get everyone on the same page? I don't see monastic discipline required, just a touch of planning and agreement.

Whoops A3 just finished installing

....and it this title is smart enough to load my mods instead of just tell me what I need. Thanks Steam! Now I get to wait for the mods to load, lol
