My Story is that I am an inexperienced flight simulator guru but have a decent computer configuration:

My PC as follows:

• Intel Xtreme I9, 6 dual 347 GHZ Processors 12 individual
• Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, SP1
• 12 GB Memory
• ATI FirePro V5800 graphics card
• 2 solid state disks
• 2 Dell 27" Monitors DVI attached, resolution, 2560x1440, Dell-U2700
• 12 USB 2.0 ports

I have acquired Logitech X56 Rhino HOTAS stick and throttle. I have not installed it yet. I wanted to start with an older simulator MS Combat Flight Simulator 2. Before adding the controller my first step was to install the MS just to see how it works before installing the Logitech and customizing the controller. It installs but when I hit "play" nothing happens. I look under "task control" and it shows no processes being initiated for the MS software. There is no support for the MS simulator so I am stymied. I was looking to just get in the air.

What I would like to try now is a currently available combat simulator, preferably one that is known to work with either the Saitek 52 and/or the Logitech 56. Ideally, there would be a profile for the game available for the X56.

Can anyone help me.

I would stay clear of DCS if I were you. The free stuff is great, but the paid content is heavily bugged and unfinished crap, and nowhere near the level of the free stuff. I would go for the Il-2 Battle of xxx series instead, you'll get a finished product and save youself a lot of headaches and frustration.

If you go the DCS route just get flaming cliffs 3 on sale. If you want a full cockpit plane grab the a10c. That with the f15 from FC3 is pretty much all you need for a2a and a2g.

Hello from Otrman,

Thank you all for your replies. What I am looking for is a combat simulator that I can either purchase as a product with discs, availability of a PDF manual, and will work with both the X56 and my PC configuration. It would be me playing against the computer game. I have nosed around DCS, Steam, and the internet in general

I just need to get started. I have tried the boxed MS Combat Flight Simulator 2 and I cannot get it to work at all. Would someone recommend a game for me and tell me how and where to get it.

Anxious to get into the air.

Otrman

OK, this new member has been after a solution, with several threads asking for it. Gotta say I am not current on prop sim stuff.

He has gotten a lot of recommendations of varying utility. EAW? Yeah, no. What he needs, in my opinion, is whichever WW2 or maybe WW1 prop sim that is the most streamlined install, with compatibility with his stick. The one with the fewest hoops to jump through and least compatibility issues. Which one wins with those criteria? He will have plenty of time to branch out after some seasoning, but for a first go I think the one that is easiest to get up and running. No required mods, patches, utilities, and that sort of thing. Does this sim exist?

No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Rise of Flight is a good place to start as you can set it up and see if your hardware works before plunking down any coin.

I always found RoF wonderful at expressing a feeling of three dimensional movement.

But why not suggest good old Il2:1946? many years of community experience behind that title so help and advice will be plentiful

What kind of car is that? What does it matter? When I drive it, I'm Steve McQueen
