I stumbled upon this last night, have not ever heard of them before. I am interested in getting a new stick-throttle combo despite already owning a Thrustmaster Cougar, I find it's an excellent stick but the zero point on the stick is very harsh. It really thuds as it goes from left to right or back to forward, there's no easy way to affect the spring tension and recently I'm thinking I'd like a softer more fluid action.

A fairly low-key need at the moment, obviously I have a good stick/throttle already and so I just keep an eye open for alternatives.

Anyway, has anyone any experience or knowledge? As far as I can see the only thing that I would suffer from is the high position of the stick, it would mean I'd need to get some chair or table mounts for it.

Get a Uber II NXT gimbal upgrade for your Cougar, if you can still buy those. Best gimbals you can get and they're super smooth with no transition spots anywhere.

VirPil use an "next gen" gimbal with CAM center system - like VKB, BRD gimbals, VKB, MFG and Slaw rudder pedals.

A CAM system, allow a more "clean center", and stick came with 2 or 3 options of CAM profile, with center less or more noticeable - but without the "cluck" of Cougar and CH gimbals. As well different resistance springs:

VirPil WarBRD base - you can buy without grip, is compatible with Cougar/Warthog grips, use the same grip bolt/nut pattern.

Uber II NXT gimbal is no longer produced at long time, the guy who manufacturer it deceased a few years.

An 3D PRINTER clone of Uber NXT is available, see this topic. Parts cost around $100/150 and require manual assembly.

This gimbal has been tested for more than an year and weak point improved, Nylon 3D Print has been shown more strong than Zamac metal used in Cougar/Warthog parts.

But CAM gimbal system is an step ahead of opposite springs system in Uber NXT gimbal, and "miles" ahead of gimbals used in CH, Saitek, Warthog. smile

Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it.

Probably my best way forward is to somehow get new gimbals for my Cougar then. Interesting that they can be printed.

A detail that I forgot about is my Thrustmaster RCS rudder pedals, they're quite nice (if only single-axis) but they do require an olde-worlde printer input (remember those? :)). My Cougar stick base has such an input so if I wish to continue using them the easiest way to do so is to continue with the Cougar base.

IJ passed away? I thought Cubpilot did, but Ian?

Sad if true. He was a great guy.

If he has passed away, how do I go about getting new springs for my NXT gimbals now?
