I most recently saw him in “The Duellists”. What struck me is that it was a a very small role but Finney still managed to make his presence felt on screen.
He's also my favorite Ebenezer Scrooge by far. How many actors have played that role on film and tv? I've lost count.
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
I always loved Albert Finney. A genuine actor and one of those performers who, almost regardless of the show, immediately draws me in to whatever it is he's doing onscreen. I love many of the different "A Christmas Carol" shows for different reasons but I'm with you panzer, Finney is my favorite Scrooge. The ending of that production always touches me, when he's yelling "Merry Christmas" to the noisy crowds and then he dances back home and tells Marley that he's going to have dinner with his family. I thought he was excellent in "The Gathering Storm" as Churchill. Another one of my favorite performances of his was when he played John Newton in "Amazing Grace".
I liked him in "Two for the Road" with Audrey Hepburn (RIP Audrey)
and also in Wolfen with Gregory (RIP Gregory)
