They have lots of problems over there. Many customers are unhappy. Some cannot even get their games started. I think that the current state of the game is totally dysfunctional.

If you want to play Jutland and other battles of the era, you might want to try "Steam and Iron" from Naval Warfare Simulations. It may not be as pretty as SES, but most customers seem to be happy with it. (There are also demos to allow you to try before you buy.)

Thank you Sir!

Yes I have heard about the unhappy customers and all the fuzz with the DRM they use with the SP app, but I can´t say I have had any issues with that myself. Actually I play offline and no problems. With regards to how the game engine works, I cant state either as I havent had enough time with the game to really notice whats wrong with it, that´s if anything is wrong to start with, so I can´t complain for now.

As for SAI, yes I have been told about it. Iam also waiting for Rule The Waves 2 to come out. I play "Modern Naval Conflicts 1970-1980" (boardgame /Print & Play) from NWS, so yes Iam familiar with NWS.

One of the biggest complaints I read about SES was how you were unable to disengage from the enemy. I think that players trying to flee the enemy had battles end due to extreme range and then found themselves re-spawning back within range of the enemy (or something like that.)

This is one of the biggest issues. The tactical battles all take place in the one operational square. When the battle ends, you only move one square.

I have Jutland, and played it a while, but I gave up quite a while ago because of that bug, and others. Also having to use their dedicated steam rip-off, and the general poor state of DRM is a total pain.

Go for Steam & Iron or Rule The Waves instead.

It uses a slightly upgraded version of the Steam & Iron engine, but has a different scope. You take charge of a nation's navy from 1900-1925 (can extend to 1950, but it goes a bit wonky). You design the ships, send them to deployment zones (strategic scale, so North sea, the Med, Indian ocean, etc.), and when wars happen, you fight the battles. Wars are non-historical, so you can have the UK vs France, for example.
You can do crazy things, like put 21 12" guns on a battleship, or whatever. Generally it is amazing fun.

In Steam and Iron, you generally play as Admiral of the Fleet.

In Rule the Waves, you still have the tactical component of S & I, but you play more as the War Department or First Sea Lord and decide on strategic goals such as research, espionage, and ship designs.
