A groundstarted sweep to Bethune which is inland:
[Linked Image]

Just across the French coast and Me262s scramble, but they are vulnerable at take-off.
This was my second pass and the one that is smoking is one that I damaged on the first pass:
[Linked Image]

Oops there goes another 262 wink
[Linked Image]

I have made some changes to the exe since these were taken, so the plane that scrambles should be the enemy secondary.
The Me262 became operational in 1944 so I have changed the "plane.dat'' file so that it can be selected in 1944.
This allows a groundstart from South-East England so that the pilot can fly over those coastal airfields (Wissant, Audembert and Caffiers) and have a reasonable chance that the 262s will scramble from one of them.

wink

Can you set up a Dora 9 CAP over the airfield?

Could make a good fight...

That is a nice idea, but I cannot see how to achieve it it.
If you set a ground-started single mission only your plane starts on the ground. As you progress towards the target the enemy AIs are generated at some point, but already in the air, and they will be looking to attack your planes and any other friendly AIs.

The trick for the bounce is to have the target some distance away and use a ground-start so that you fly over some enemy airfields and hopefully spawn the 262s. The other enemy AIs may not be generated.
If the target is too close the enemy AIs will be generated and there will be 262s already in the air.

Getting better and the source code can be adapted to generate different planes wink

[Linked Image]

It would be a much more difficult mission if the AAA from the airfield is heavy. For the test I had it turned off.

A lot of progress

I have made the "enemy encounter aircraft" selectable in the single mission parameters:
[Linked Image]
It uses the current enemy secondary choice that is displayed, which can be random.
When I "Click here" at the top the "enemy encounter aircraft" is set, and you can change the enemy secondary selection to something else without affecting the "enemy encounter aircraft" choice.

With the random settings Me410s were spawned:
[Linked Image]

I saw the 109Es but did not take a screenie
Elsewhere some 109Gs were spawned.
[Linked Image]

The 410s were all destroyed, and as a result more were spawned.
[Linked Image]

This makes for a very different game as we are attacking planes just after take off. You need good low flying skills, and so do some of the AIs wink

An adjusted mission with no enemy secondary selection:
[Linked Image]

The 1069Es were there as expected
[Linked Image]

The random selection spawned 190As
[Linked Image]

When they were destroyed the random selection spawned 110Gs, but I did not catch them on the ground and I ran out of ammo before I made a kill.

wink

This was a real battle, and as close to Iron Mike's idea as possible. I flew a Spit with ponies in support, Doras flying CAP and 262s spawning on the ground.

It worked very well smile

As they are not selected, are we to assume that the 262's are randomly selected? In other words, could we expect it to be just as likely for any other fighter type to scramble? Forgive me if I'm just obtuse.

No. Look at the top of the parameters screen. "Click here...."
I had selected the 262 as the enemy secondary plane, then "clicking here" set it as the enemy encounter plane, which is why you can see the "Me 262" text underneath.
Then I went back and set the enemy secondary as "Do not select".
I could have had a different enemy secondary plane for an even trickier mission smile

Same mission but with additional 110Gs:

Note the proximity to the airfields with the two enemy AIs

I have just edited the exe to make the selection more obvious in mission parameters with the blue and red text smile

BTW, this mod works all the way back to 1.28c( E? ) which was issued in conjunction with the original SPAW.

I used to jump Ki-44's all the time on the way home from missions with my trusty A-20.

Agreed, but the aircraft were not selectable. This exe allows the player to set up specific planes to be bounced, or to have them random.
The whole issue is a response to a request to have Me-262 bounce games made elsewhere.

I know.

I wasn't being critical.

I was advertising.
