I saw one display at Fairford UK this year. And the year previously.

This year the display was noticeable more dynamic and seems like the limits are being increased as to what they will show in public.

Not only was it the loudest take off I have ever heard in 25 years of airshows (including the B-1 and Vulcan and the F-35 actually hurt my ears) it was definitely no slouch and did some really hard turns. Not a Raptor but I would say at least equivalent to F-16....albeit the F-35 seems to bleed energy quicker.

I was converted with the display I saw.

This was the display I saw, the noise at take off was incredible and the turn I remember being impressed about was at 42 seconds.

Impressive. I always preferred the X-32 because it's just out of this world ugly, but the F-35 is growing on me. I can see me caving in and building one sooner or later.

cheers
Gareth

I saw an F-35 and the Thunderbirds at the same show last Fall. At that show at least the F-35 did some way harder maneuvering than any of the F-16's.

And yeah the F-35 is ridiculously loud. I think Raptors and B1's are more "thunderous", but nothing I've ever heard roars like an F-35...

They should be let loose a little more this year, saw the Heritage Demo last year and it was pretty lame except for some high speed passes. You can see more action outside Luke AFB with the new pilots yanking and banking.

Is there a Youtube video of the maneuvering above? I'd like to save it for viewing later. What's that maneuver called?

SHIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiooooooh, I meant to do that.
in serious tone, its a deep spiral stall which unlike a stunt plane the F-35's ridiculous afterburner thrust gets it enough lift to escape it.
