Reality is often quite mundane and routine. Your HFRO example shows exactly why Hollywood does what it does.

From a real event... watching a boomer on the surface in it's patrol zone open the missile hatches is a kind of "exciting" which is really scary.
K-219 was "only" prepping for a brief dive to flood out a fire in the missile compartment, caused by the explosion of one of the missile's propellant lines leaking and mixing with oxygen and seawater... but I can only wonder about the pucker factor in both her crew and that of the shadowing USS Augusta
On a side note, did anybody recognize a very young Mr. warmth in the Burt Lancaster/Clark Gable clip from Run Silent Run Deep, which by the way, I saw in the theaters when in came out. I would have been 12 or 13 at the time.

Speaking of submarine movies, did anyone watch that box office flop from last year titled "Hunter Killer"?

Maybe because the vast majority of people have never heard of him.
The submarine genre overall isn't really that popular anymore anyway judging by recent box office numbers. It's a sad thing but it is what it is.

It's so different, and yet so much is the same on these new Virginia class boats... At least different from when I was on -637 and -688 boats. That OOD was just being minted... LOL
Thanks for posting that Blade.
