Windows 10 1903 Will Set Aside 7GB of Disk Space for Windows Updates

As reported earlier, the Windows maker is finally paying attention to how Windows updates work. From allowing users to temporarily pause Windows 10 updates to reserving some storage for better management, it seems Microsoft is trying to make the update process more seamless

Apparently, some of the recent update issues were due to the update process "finding" disk space -- where "none was available". That lead to loss of data (sometimes very serious) for some users. They are fixing that, they say -- by setting aside more drive space for W10 to use.

The Windows 10 Update system is garbage really bad, IMO. At least on my Home Edition license. I'm pleased to hear that Microsoft is looking at changes, but given the current state, I'm not setting up high hopes.

Your quote doesn't link to any source, but I will be interested to see if any improvements and user-choice features are reserved for Professional Edition users only.

Its my method to not link quotes if the article adds no real information. That saves SimHQ readers time reading an article that adds nothing. The quote shows its not my words -- but some on--line pundit.

If I think an article adds significant information, I link it.

Just my way of doing things since I'm not a professional author who sells my writing and must give credit. I look out for SimHQ readers -- rather than pundits.

I agree that W10 is not the best imaginable product. I've always believed Windows was the best OS at any given moment. But, I give it a "B" grade -- not an "A".

Regarding W10 Pro vs Home: I have several machines in the house. Some Home and some Pro. The way I use a PC, I don't notice any difference in any aspect -- so far. FWIW.

The first thing I did when I got my W10 in August was to freeze all update services (which is actually quite involved and not nearly as easy as in previous versions.). So I'm on 1803 (IIRC).

Let's see if they introduce enough management features that make me trust their update service again.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update May Not Be Fixed Yet and It Appears Version 1803 Is Also Broken After Latest Security Patches

A new Patch Tuesday, a new list of bugs – It’s kind of becoming a tradition. Several users have reported that this week’s cumulative update is breaking their systems.

Article

Hey, even I had a recurrence with the latest W10 1809 version. When updating my AMD GPU drivers, the Radeon Settings App does not install. Had same problem last month. After trying many things, I got it to work last time. So far, trying the same things does not work.

I may lower their grade to "C" sigh

W7 may finally be on the way out -- although they've said that before.

Windows 10 Breaks the 40% Barrier – Now Leads the Market Share

Windows 10 has had quite an interesting (and controversial) journey so far. The desktop operating system had to deal with the dominance that Windows 7 experienced for years. As Microsoft gets ready to stop supporting Windows 7 next year, it is expected we will see businesses finally make the big move or risk being left unsupported.

Windows 10 leads the market now with 40.90% market share, followed by Windows 7 at 37.19% and Windows 8.1 at 4.34%

We still have W8.1 on two machines in the house because it supports Windows Media Center.

Microsoft Will Begin Selling Windows 7 Extended Support Plan on April 1 – Help Desk Support Isn’t Included

.. quite an expensive support plan that offers security updates to Windows 7 devices after the January 2020 end of support deadline on a per-device basis. The payment plan ranges between $25 to $50 per device per year, doubling with each passing year.
