Exactly. I hope the Chinese announce a manned lunar mission and a plan to go to Mars. That will spur others to work harder and faster smile

Unfortunately, that's a fact.

Well, I have to disagree here since IMO nothing matches the landings on the moon and the Space Shuttle program when it comes to manned achievements.

Resuming, so far only NASA was able to put a human being on another celestial body.

Oh...kay.

it's worth noting that the bulk of space hardware in the shape of heavy-duty boosters and Space Station parts derives from Cold-War competition in space exploration. Ironically the old Soviet Union heritage still is a main contributor to this.

The probe matches velocities just like an Earth orbit rendezvous. 1960's technology.

I have to say the thing the Russians have going for them is that they have been consistently sending people into space with Soyuz for several decades. Accident-free as well with only two exceptions, the first in 1967 and the second in 1971. The ISS would have been unmanned since 2011 if it wasn’t for them. Admittedly someone would have been forced to come up with some sort of manned launch system, but still..

That said, nothing equals Project Apollo and the Moon landings. Nothing!

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!
