Hi All,

Here is another recent completion - Takom's 1/35 Panhard AML-90 in a simple diorama with some Blackdog figures, showing a scene outside Port Stanley in 1982. The base is from an off the shelf mat cut and shaped to give some contour and a few grasses and flowers added. I used Crossdelta DPM decals for the Marines - painstaking but with my painting skills they were essential! I'm only just getting in to figure painting so I'm really pleased with these.

I only spotted the way too clean wheel arches when I had taken the photos, and the mirrors need some mud 'spatter' adding.

Nice. But the Brits, shouldn't they have FAL's?

I've seen SBS operatives with M16s.

Most of the regular infantry/marines would more likely to have the semi-auto only UK version of the FAL the L1A1 SLR.

It depends biggrin There are plenty of references to the Royal Marines and Paras using M-16 during this time, especially in Northern Ireland and the Falklands. Usually highly mobile units relying on what they could carry themselves. (I am far from an expert on fire arms but I believe M-16 is lighter than SLR. This is backed up by a good friend of mine who was in Mountain and Arctic Warfare Cadre of RM in 90s)

Good spot!

Really nice Goon. How long does the base generally take you to do?

I'm torn between being impressed by the weathering job or simply wowed by the little flowers.

The poor demoralised Argie conscript, under-trained and ill-equipped, probably deserted by his officers in that cold damp inhospitable environment looks suitably despondent in this excellent work.

I love how the scenario got this wet and foggy look to it.

From a pure storytelling point, it does lack a bit the explanation why the armored car is out of use and the marines were able to capture it. A tire blown out by a mine or gunfire would have suited the setting (in my opinion only, of course).

Maybe they jumped out to take a leak and surprised the Marines having a spot of tea?

Thanks everyone.

Ajay - This base is mostly an off the shelf mat. The stones and lots of the vegetation are all included. I cut some strips out to make the wheel ruts, and added a few tufts, the tall grass, and the yellow flowers. All told, about an hour of tinkering.

I totally agree with your comments Colonel. I started off just building the vehicle, but wanted to make a base, to show the Falklands environment. Then I decided to add the figures because I wanted a go at showing DPM camouflage. So it grew piecemeal with no real cohesion or 'story'.

Love your quote Nixer smile

cheers

The DPM decals must been some hell of an effort.

Well, you could always shove a british beer bottle in the 90mm barrel. That would explain why the Argy had to get out. :p
