I was mucking around today with DGVoodoo 2 on my 1.29 installation, with the intention of trying some reshade effects in EAW.

I installed DGVoodoo through JSGME. Via this facility, I put the contents of the MS folder (d3d8.dll, d3dimm.dll and ddraw.dll) from the DGVoodoo zip file into the main EAW directory, along with the dgvoodoo.conf and the exe.

I then ran and set up DGVoodoo thus:

1). Ensure config folder on top left is that containing the eaw.exe. Also, press the '.\' button to the right of this.

2). Set Videocard to GeForce FX 5700 Ultra.

3). Set VRAM to 256MB

4). Set Texture Filtering to 'Force anisotrophic 16x'.

5). Set Resolution to 1920x1080.

6). Set Antialiasing to 8x.

7). Set Force vSync.

8). Click 'Apply' and 'OK'.

Having done all this, I started my widescreen D3D European Air War game to discover I had Horizon Fog! Obviously I am emulating the FX 5700.

I have yet to try out the Reshade business, but this should be good enough for now. There are some mouse anomalies in the Screens, but nothing worse than minor.

Thats good news, I was hoping to get fog that way too with that wrapper, but they wanted to do something unusual to get it to work. So I stopped testing it.

What is JSGME?

JSGME is merely a file manager (JonesSoft Generic Mod Enabler). It is a free download available by googling its title. It is easy to use and has the advantage that it is just as easy to disable a mod as enable it. Therefore if my DGVoodoo 2 install had proven useless, I could easily have uninstalled it with no risk of residual file corruption.

My Horizon Fog is working well now in all three of my EAW installs (1.60, FXEXE and my custom 1.29). I have a loss of about 2fps, but overall my game is steady and stable with plane numbers and graphics maxed out and fps rarely drops below 28-30 even behind large bomber formations. No stutters or freezes, either.

I managed to install ReShade 4 into EAW, as DGVoodoo 2 facilitates it. However, I can't see the effects do anything, but others might find differently.

From what I read of the given readme, is that dgvoodoo2 needs the names of the directx dlls hacked into the game exe if the game uses lower than dx7. Thats what I remember reading.
I even tried putting the dlls into the game directory without luck.

I just don't know how its working for you, but glad it is. smile

It was a completely accidental finding on my part. I just threw the relevant dll's into my main EAW directory. I also put the conf and exe there. Perhaps if you try it again, using my exe setup? I am using the latest version of DGVoodoo 2, perhaps there has been a change?

Perhaps.
I'll look into it later on to see if there was a change.

Are you sure you have FOG, and not just a cloudy day, or stormy sky? I confused those two before with the FOG. smile

Anyway, glad you shared with us, this tip.

I can be in the fog myself, from time to time, but I have Horizon Fog. I haven't even been drinking as I'm on taxi-service tonight for my youngest daughter!

funny.

I just re read some of the notes and apperently its win8 and win10 that will have issue with the directx portion of dgvoodoo2. So I guess i can't use the DX part of it anyway.

Win7 seems to allow it to be used like you have used it.

Certainly, I continue to have the fog on my Windows 7, although it is highly regrettable that those on Win 8 and 10, like yourself, seemingly continue to be denied the opportunity. Our game struggles to keep pace with 'progress'. I hear of ways of creating partitions that can run alternative OS's, but that's as far as I know. Alternatively, is it possible to install Win 7 on a separate hard-drive? Again, I know nothing.

Happy Christmas,

Mick.
