Of course, most of you know this. Anyway, I am finally reading one of his non-fiction books called "Submarine: A Guided Tour Inside a Nuclear Warship (Tom Clancy's Military Reference Book 1)." Well, it is just that - a book about the technical side of submarines. I am a fanboy of his works so I will give it a shot. smile

By the way, I am several chapters into it and I am enjoying it. Clancy's writing style carries over very well from novels to the documentary (in my opinion). Also, for the nerd in me, I like to see it as a companion piece to "The Hunt for Red October."

I read his book about the USMC which he published around 1995 or so. It was an excellent read.

Carrier
SpecForces

And four books other books on command aspects:
"Into the Storm - on the ground in Iraq"
"Every Man a Tiger — the Gulf War Air Campaign"
"Shadow Warriors — Inside the Special Forces"
"Battle ready"

There is also one about main battle tanks esp the Abrams, can't remember the actual title tho (Could be just "MBT". I have it somewhere in a box in the attic.
I have the Every Man a Tiger with Gen. Chuck Horner and SSN both are good books.

Another good book is Pongo Pete's book "Storm Command" about his role in the Gulf War, I have not yet read his autobiography "Looking for Trouble: SAS to Gulf Command - the autobiography" tho it has been recommended to me.

I wish he'd go back to his old style of writing. The new books just dont do it for me.

You mean Clancy? That would be a bit difficult for him to do now.....

The books on command aspects are worth looking at - I'm currently reading through Into the Storm.

It helps you put some perspective on how to plan things on a grander scale and has helped me when creating missions using mission editors in various games. You get an idea on what is realistic as far as how many troops should be in XYZ place, and how long it will take for reinforcements or resupply to arrive once certain objectives have been achieved.

They are a bit "lite" in nature, not quite as high detail as I would like but they're a good start. I suppose that the Army Field Manuals would serve a decent purpose for more concrete info.
