I've been looking back at some old games and replaying them, as many of them have gone untouched for years.
My current replay list:
Wolfenstein The New Order Skyrim (heavily modded this time around, with Lydia made essential so she doesn't die from falling off a cliff, etc., graphics improvements, better followers, etc.) Civ V (All fear the American Empire and submit to the One True Religion of Exceptionalism) Various Tomb Raider games
I'm having a ball replaying Skyrim, as I'm ignoring the main storyline and just doing minor quests, exploring, and killing the Thalmor at every opportunity.

I've been having a lot of fun lately with Left 4 Dead 2,chasing achievements. Which is strange because I thought I was done with first person shooters.
EV's are the Devils matchbox.

Talk about revisiting old games I’ve been playing Age Of Rifles and Great Naval Battles of the North Atlantic in DOSBox a lot.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

I just got all the wayward dragons in the Mrai quest and am off to see him next time. Sofia is still my favorite follower mod...but I'll pick up Recorder soon. I downloaded the Jessica Alba follower just to irritate the wife.

I still play Grand Prix Legends, the finest racing sim of all time. 20 years old now in 2018.
Also recently played through Commandos, Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty, and my favourite of the series: Commandos 2. On my way through Hidden & Dangerous 2 now. Thinking of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic after that.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

I've been playing through Star Trek: Judgement Rites lately. I take retro DOS gaming to the next level... What is that? Looks really cool!

Skyrim (heavily modded this time around, with Lydia made essential so she doesn't die from falling off a cliff, etc., graphics improvements, better followers, etc.) I've also been playing the recent(ish) re-release of Skyrim, not what I would call heavily modded, but with a few choice ones I find enhancing: Grass. The single visual upgrade that makes the most difference to me personally. Lush and dense. Water. Usual benefits. HUD modification to remove all quest/place/NPC pointers/compass etc. This is the single biggest game enhancement for me, I no longer feel like I'm just following the arrows as gameplay. Odd thing is it makes you really look around, it's amazing how many small inconspicuous paths you notice when the place they lead to is not fanfared to you on the HUD. Finding stuff is about... finding stuff now, not following pointers. Only thing I have on the screen is the cursor now. Huge improvement IMO. Did the same thing in Witcher 3, only you can do it right in the game no need for mods there. Totally changed that game too, now I have to look at the landscape for locations and dangers instead of ignoring all that rendering and focusing on the mini-map. Other than that, I get occasional fun from B-17 TME, Startopia (hugely underappreciated game IMO), Quake (original game).

I figured out how to configure Retroarch, a multi-system emulator(think NES, SNES, Genesis etc., but also supports the Dosbox core) to have a PC overlay so it looks like I'm playing from a real computer, and then added some VGA CRT shaders to make the tube look realistic down to the characteristic graininess, curvature, phosphor glow etc. Took quite a bit of experimenting but the end result is pretty convincing when I'm playing old games. DOS works, so I'm able to access everything through command line, too.

you just cannot capture that original feeling. Nostalgia is best left as a good memory as far as older games are concerned for me:) This also applies heavily to tv shows for me.
