CVS overcharged my prescription copay and I went back to try to get that fixed. As I entered the store in a sour mood, I saw that they had Sega Genesis consoles on the shelves and my mood totally got lifted. I mean, I didn't buy one, but for some reason, I thought that this was the highlight of today! A pharmacy is selling a game console from the late 1980s. For some reason, I could not be seriously angry by the time I got to the pharmacy counter. I'm still trying to figure out the psychological impact of this event.

I find it very odd that a CVS would be selling a game console system and especially an outdated one.
Anyway, it sounds like you've been having quite an exciting day.

Is it the new re-release? I think they come preloaded with a pile of Genesis games, just like the NES and SNES classics.
I didn't check the details, but the box had a load of images on it that suggested a "greatest hits" kind of vibe. Sonic the Hedgehog was on there . . . okay, now I just sound gay. Anyway, . . .

Next thing we know, Letterboy will be telling us that he visited his local Home Depot and found this:

All the old game consoles are coming back. Walmart even is selling the PacMan full size wood console you assemble, they come with all kinds of games. Was playing with for while, playing Galaga.
I purchased this from Walmart a couple years ago or so...
Cheap imitation (~$40.00) and no paddles, which are optional now.

"Vigilance" is the word. If I snooze I lose. Home Depot is only one outlet where I maintain a presence. As always, I will carry over my findings to my fellow man on EBay with no profit ambition.

If they ever offer the SEGA Saturn with "Hyper Pinball 3D" as one of the games, I'll be first in line to buy one even though the table physics were rudimentary compared to current pinball emulators like Pinball Arcade and Zen Pinball. Gangster had the coolest, most addicting vibe.

In the Saturn version there was a jazzy instrumental that played in the background. I remember a walking bass line and a xylophone. Perhaps the music is turned off for the video. Edit: version with soundtrack -- great music!

Surely the best hockey game of all time is NHL '94. And of course Road Rash is a classic. Many nights drinking beer with my mates and whacking them with pipes and chains and slamming at high speed in to bovine speedbumps.
Jungle/Desert Strike. Ecco the Dolphin
The first Madden with the NFL license was '94.
When this console came out my friend Mike had one. We played the first EA hockey game which was NHL '93 and I was hooked. I used to ask him to borrow it. I would drive to his house 12 miles away, take it home, play all night and return it to him next day. It was before they had added a full career mode and I tracked all the stats by hand, for the entire league! Using copies of The Hockey News I would simulate a full season by letting the AI play the other games, while I played all of the Flyer's schedule.
When NHL '94 came out it got even better (I had bought my own system by then). Full season mode. One-timers. NHL license. Goalie control. Man I loved that game. I can still recall my team. I usually played the Blackhawks in NHL '94. Roenick (unstoppable), Larmer, Goulet, Smith, Chelios and Belfour.
Lots of other great games as well. The first FIFA games came out then, the USA World Cup was going on. Oh man, good times
I still have it and all the games, but haven't hooked it up in many years.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
