Sorry to say but I’m leaving this fantastic WW1 game for a while.

It was at a VRarcade hall that made my intrest into VR, only I did dislike the pixel effect on the Vive and the Rift. After reading a lott of info, only two headsets would be my type of choice the Pimax5k and the Samsung Odyssey + both to expensive for shipping to the eurozone.
As always being very sceptical about VR, still, I did get me one Samsung Odyssey plus on a Blackfriday dail for $299, this is a complete set included the controllers. While the Pimax5k is headset only and will cost $699,- so shipped to the euro zone I geuss it would be raised to $1000

Now it it is all very difficult to adjust this VR for the IL2 series, but first impressions is that, even for me as an sceptical guy, there is no way back. I went from keyboard to joystick, from RB1 to Woff/RoF/FC, from 14” CRT to 27” IPS 2560p, did buy trackIR5, basshaker, pedals, throttle quadrant and all the improved hardware. Only this VR is for me one of the biggest immersive factor, it feels like you are finaly in a real plane. I did not believe all the guys who were shouthing that at the flysim forums, but yep they were right. When I dive the Spad in FC it is like in a real plane, I did feel it into my bloodstream. When making sharp moves you feel dizy.

Thanks for all the help and nice talking over here and sure I will always support the OBD WW1 if something new has been published, but right now I’m into VR.

Wish you luck with your purchase.

But from what I have been reading about VR, it is going the way of 3D TV's and that is the market is getting smaller and smaller as time progresses because the games are not there for people to use with VR.

CPU = i9 11900K
GPU = RTX 3080 Ti
Monitor = ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX 2160p G-sync

you are 100% right on this.
VRhead sets are still low on quality if compare to an good monitor screen and the best headset the StarVR has stopped the develpment phase.
Need of expensive hardware, yep we are talking about RTX2080ti and i7-8700 range.
VR-Headsets are still to expensive, the best now is the Pimax cost $699, excl controllers, shipping and tax/vat.
No tripleA games, so no Mega selling games

only now I think the future of VR is like TrackIR, very specific for a flysim and race games.
I’m never been enthousiast on new aspects like TrackIR/basshaker/pedals only this VR is for me clear the future for flysims.

To feel the impressions, I can only say, go to an VRarcade hall or to an demo at your localshop like the Mediamarkt in the Eurozone.

Yeah. The VR bug bit me, too. I only play in VR and doing it for several months. Fortunately, I can play all my favorites in VR. Including WOFF. For me, Immersion is beyond what a monitor can provide. Just haven't had time to sit and play for a while.

I’m stll in the adjustment phase for BoX so it is all far away from perfect, the whole aspect of VR in BoX is, you are in the cockpit surrounded by 3d instruments, I do notice aspects in the game that I never did see on my 27” IPS 2560x1440 monitor, I think the cockpit in RoF/Clod and DirectX8 Woff must be still flat so all the immerse factor in VR has been gone.
But it is very interesting because I was considering to buy WoTR before my VR experience, only with VR I’m wanting to go for BoBpl. As being now tight on budget, still have a family to feed.

Can you explain what did you use on software/adjustments to go for all that VR 3d around you.

.

Dutch, I'd hate to see you leave. I hope you can sort out your VR to work with WOFF UE. You would be sorely missed around camp.

Best of luck, Dutch. Enjoy!

I thought about getting into VR as well - especially as flight sims are pretty much the ideal market for them - but decided to wait on investing in the hardware to see if it caught on outside the sim market. As has been noted, it hasn't so I'm saving my pennies for other hardware instead (and D&D related minis and terrain). That said, I am sure it's an amazing experience above and beyond what TrackIR can provide. I am sure you will have many great hours in it. Hopefully WOTR / WOFF UE gets DX11 someday and that helps the VR process be smoother here for those who enjoy it.

You're right that it's not true VR in WOFF, but it's also not like staring at a flat monitor.. I am free to turn my head in any direction and still be in the game. It's definitely not like IL2 or Flying Circus where everything is in 3D.

I needed to buy vorpX, download freetrack and then followed advice from a previous thread to get it up and running.... http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/printthread/Board/372/main/416988/type/thread. I had to reduce the graphic settings and occasionally had trouble with WOFF crashing, so it's not the perfect solution. I wouldn't do a campaign in WOFF using VR, but it's good for a mission once in a while. To it's credit and for a brief moment, WOFF was the only WW1 flight game which tricked my mind and transported me back in time. You get to see the gritty atmosphere of WW1 aerial combat up close.

While I realize WW1 planes do not have a lot of buttons, I do use quite a few in WOFF and WW2 planes have a lot more.
I am planning on adding more buttons / switches / pots (for trim) to my simpit for the WW2 planes.
I am still wondering about how to see the buttons to press them.

i wonder about the same thing. I have a programable stick ans throttle with a load of buttons, but i still use the keyboard. Can you do that with VR?

Without the real 3d your VRset is acting like a Tracking system, you can better sit at a decent monitor and using trackIR, much better screen quality That is the whole point about VR games you feel like sitting in a real cockpit. Yesterday I did fly the Italian MC202 and did have the real experience on how small the cockpit is.
