I've always been interested in this series but as someone with more interest than time (or money), how would I get into it? Let's say that I wanted to work with the A-10. Would I just download the DCS world and buy the A-10 module? How do the campaigns work? Are they all canned? How is the AI? I really want something like Falcon 3.0 with a dynamic (read: at least randomized) campaign...is that doable? I've watched a lot of the Grim Reaper videos and they all seem fun but the startup seems kind of overwhelming. Thanks for any help...
The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...
I'll try to be short, DCS is a good simulator but a horrible game. Sure there are some interesting mission here and there but usually campaigns in DCS have zero replayability since there is no dynamic campaign AT ALL. Default A10 campaign for example is made of naive missions (A10 vs SAM), repetitive enemies patterns.....simply boring AF.
DCS is a good buy if you are looking for helos, study sim experience and/or interesting flight model. Campaign or simply single player combat wise i'd suggest to stay away at least until they improve the gameplay experience, right now it is too sterile. They say that they are working on dynamic campaign but no official statement has been released so we have no idea about how they will implement the DC.
I quit playing DCS like 2 years ago and i'm not alone, many bought it, got excited for a short period and then got extremely bored up to the point to quit it altogether, specially those looking for dynamic campaign.
But you could always download DCS World and the Su-25T and fly that to try it - It's totally free and there are a heap of user made campaigns. It's actually one of the aircraft I fly most.

It's the best sentence, it also fits me.I'm happy I've wasted my money only for black shark.Never more.
Totally agree, although I have years in it and almost 3/4 of the modules and 3 of the 4 terains. The Helos are fun. The free world and Su25 and P51 (still free???) are definitely worth a look. You can definitely decide whether you want to invest in any modules by just trying out the free stuff. I update mine every 3 months or so just in case i want to jump back in, but I have not flown in it in almost a year. The hardware requirements are steep for maxed eye candy and online play. The load times are lonnnnnggggggggggg!. Steer clear of anything VEAO offers.
I am using 16 GBS of Corsair Vengeance 1600 memory. Just looked at Process Lasso and i am using between 8.01 and 10.05 GBs of memeory in a mission I made for a dogfight between 12 WWII planes. 16GBs should be good if you are not going online. For Online large missions 32 GBS of memory are suggested. In all fairness I did have Firefox on so I had 52 processes on with Vipre protection on. I usually have 39 processes so I probably get a little better performance but this is a good representation of what to expect. I think only using 8GBs will hinder your performance in DCS, in IMHO. S!
Single player IMO is dull as dishwater, only ever use that for testing something or just messing about, multiplayer is where the real attraction is at.
Thanks for sharing this rollnloop, I did not know it existed. I have not been very involved with DCS since 2.5 hit and the looooong load times and heavy ram usuage tax my old system pretty hard. I will look into this since it uses Nevada. I still haven't found graphical settings that make the Normandy map viable for me to use. Have any ideas? The Campaign I bought from Ed on Normandy is simply not playable for me. Sorry, OT.
