It's a "no buy" for me, at least now. Maybe in a year or two (if it's still around) and goes for cheap I might pick it up. I absolutely love Fallout 4. I love it enough to start a new character and ignore the main story line as long as I can...as rebuilding the Commonwealth into a string of functioning settlements for decent people to live in really appeals to me. While '76 looks good and I'm intrigued by the amount of exploration one can do, at the end of the day it's going to be a "clear area A, leave it alone, go back to clear area A, rinse and repeat." All of the Fallout games since three are this way, and at some point one starts to view places as orchards of stuff, routinely stopping by to harvest them. For example, all of my couriers in Fallout 4 wear mining helmets and carry miniguns. Well, if I ever need more mining helmets with lights, just head south from The Slog to the quarry. Miniguns? Oh, there's some spots for them to be harvested from as well. Plus there are other people. Auzzum5648: "Hello! Want to trade?" Me: * ignore * Auzzum5648: "Want to fight?" Me: "Get off my lawn." I suspect that if I were to play '76 I'd wind up being that weird person with their little mobile settlement that hermits up someplace and comes out to gather resources to improve on it. And if there's a big battle with a bunch of players going on, hiding out until it's all over to loot the bodies. The weapons look like crap. Not graphically, but in quality. C'mon, it's West Virginia. Tell me a proper rifle and pistol is going to be hard to find. Seriously. Zip (pipe) guns should be the exception, not the rule, but they're overwhelmingly featured in all the trailers and sneak peaks of game play. And there's bunny hopping. Bunny hopping!

And to think they could have put together a huge Fallout 4 expansion or even a standalone game for the same amount of resources it took to produce this silliness... In fairness to Bethesda, they did make several DLCs for Fallout 4 which greatly added more hours of gaming time.

BYW, it's a good time to play the Red Dead Redemption games. Made exactly that call deciding between Red Dead II or Fallout 76. Fallout 4 was my alltime fave FPS/RPG so with '76 being multiplayer only, it was an easy choice in the end; had to be Red Dead II. Even though I had to buy a console (cough, choke) to be able to play it! With Red Dead II, I am loving the similarity to Fallout 4. Huge open world, main storyline you can drop in and out of depending on your preference, play good guy / bad guy depending on your proclivity (even better in Red Dead than Fallout 4 because if you go full outlaw, like I did, the game sics bounty hunters on your a$$) and, it is full of side missions and surprises and great details*. Only thing from Fallout 4 (and by the way, Metal Gear Solid V) that I miss is companions! As a very average shot with poor reflexes, not having a droid by my side, or a sniper like Quiet, is something I miss. No offense to the guys who enjoy bonding with their horse. * On the detail thing, I don't read spoilers so I'm still discovering great stuff, like in my last session I shot a wild boar with a bow and arrow and hit him in the chest. He ran off and I lost sight of him in the forest, but then I noticed a trail of blood. I spent 15 minutes tracking him, following the blood trail through the forest until I found him where he was lying panting so I had to finish him with a knife, about 500 yards from where I shot him. Felt bad, encouraged me to get better with the bow. PS and would you believe when I went to register on XBox I find out some swine is using my handle and I can't sign up as Heinkill? I should sue!

Totally lost me when it became focused on multi player. I think that is how most people feel. The big thing people wanted was multiplayer COOP in skyrim and fallout. I think somewhere someone got confused and decided coop meant multiplayer battle arena like pubg and fortnite. But I'd say the vast majority of bethesda fans dont want that. They just wanted 4-8 player coop. But they removed pretty much the whole story and all the NPCs. What is left isnt much of a fallout game.

I would love Red Dead, but I'm a PC guy, so maybe Kingdom Come. XBox is just a PC without keyboard or mouse That's what I told myself...
