Ray, the models with "a few missaligned panels" are used since they clean up easily. Unfortunately, they are not the majority of models available. If I was a house painter using broad strokes and large featureless walls those models would be passable. But, I am more of a 'portrait painter' . Eyes and ears on the same siide of the face are not an accurate depiction of a human face, nor will I put out a skin that has a raggedy appearance. To me that is equivalent to putting all of a B-17s motors on one wing and saying that it is ok because the wing tips are round. I firmly believe in quality over quantity. I will say it again, these flaws are usually from the original models and the 'fixes and boggles' used there in. Not from your work. Unfortunately for us our best modelmakers are no longer working here. Tuma, Chompy, Gibbons are a few of the missing.

I didn't take offense, Mike. I NEVER take offense when it comes to modding, only poor forum behavior.
As we all know by now, I don't make many models from scratch, instead upgrading old models to a new standard.
I fix the obvious mapping flaws that are in the original model but I concentrate on the underlying wireframe as to my eye the ragged edges are a much bigger issue than the misaligned textures. For instance, you can see an eight sided wheel from a lot further away than an element that is two or three increments off.
FWIW, I could be the modelmaker that you long for. I'm quite capable of building super accurate models from scratch but it's a long, slow process.
However, a long time back I decided that quantity is it's own quality. Not that I throw any old junk into the mix ( you should see the load of partial models with major errors that haunt my hard drive) but I don't believe in 100% accuracy when 95% will do for the average player.
And that's is what this is all about for me. Providing as much of a pleasant gaming experience as possible for as many players as possible.
Which is also why I came on board the 1.6 development team. There is nothing in the EAW world that comes close to providing the variety of scenarios, campaigns, weapons, targets and aircraft than 1.6 does.

I want readers to see what my point is about models and their flaws. The first jpg is of an updated Dewoitine D-510 from the 1.6 Med Planes folder. It is a rather bland and featureless looking skin. Very few lines and those on the skin are not always straight. For example the control surfaces on the wings trailing edges. And, the misshapen French roundels 0n the wings. Original Skin Next the original model wearing my skin. Note the dorsal fuselage, cowl and the prop hub and the "acceptable" flaws". Skin with original model Finally, the same skin without the "acceptable" flaws. That is with the elements aligned. It is kinda like a big connect the dots thingie. When the skin is painted lo resolution these misalignments pass unnoticed. However, when the skin is painted in a higher resolution with the actual panel lines, bolts and rivets included, the connection points, (dots) need to match up. Example, element x connects to y at points 3,4,and 9. But x is really connected to 1,5,and 8. It is the visual equivalent of speakers out of phase or a piano out of tune. I am not a model builder or heavy modder. But, thanks much to the coaching of Ray I have learned how to match up the dots and mostly fix the mismatches. After I think my adjusted version just looks better.

Your adjusted version looks way better and I'm going to need it for my upgrade package when you finish it, if you don't mind. Yet, to my eye the misalignments in the original are negligible. OTOH, those are some nicely rounded elevators and wing tips.

Ok, that will do, thanks.
And that, snowflakes ( C’mon. No need to create an issue. You made your point in a few posts by now. Time to let it go.), is how a couple of old EAW hands work it out.

I’m trying to get everyone to accept that the past is just that; the past.
So try not to drag the dead out of their graves and shake their fingers at us.
Let it go.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

All due respect sir, the recent "tracer" thread would indicate that we are still suffering from members that refuse to let things go, relatively NEW members at that.
You admonished me to back off, which I did and yet the thread went on for another page of insufferable declarations about being offended, casting aspersions on long time members and just unpleasant comment after comment, all with no input from the senior members, turning yet another thread into a dumpster fire.
I can say with some confidence that the old hands here would like nothing more than to return to the old days and we support you efforts to make that happen.
