I've not read it all but seems to be a good read so far:

Truck Killer
For one mission in Vi...the job was a bomber from World War II

Quote
I was born 25 years later than I should have been,” muses former U.S. Air Force pilot Tim Black, a veteran of two tours in Vietnam. “I grew up enamored with World War II pilots and planes.”

Born late or not, Black flew combat missions in a World War II airplane. Dropped World War II-era bombs. Even fired leftover .50-caliber World War II bullets.

But that’s not why he volunteered to fly the Douglas A-26 Invader in Southeast Asia in the 1960s. In fact, at the 2009 Air Commando Association reunion in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, every crewman asked said that the old bomber’s appeal had nothing whatsoever to do with historical legacies. “A-26s were the best for the mission,” says pilot Jay Norton, echoing the sentiment of all on hand.

Why isn't there a modern combat flight sim covering the Vietnam War????

Because Russian developers aren't interested in Vietnam? That may sound like a joke but it isn't!

The most recent sim I can think of that was set in Vietnam was "Wings Over Vietnam".

And the sim is nice, dynamic campaign, beautiful 3D.

Cockpits are slightly inferior to il2 1946, avionic is lite (slightly less detailed than Flaming Cliffs, and no clickable cockpit), terrains are pretty dull unmodded but when modded it's 46 level.

There is hope for DCS 3d party to go vietnam at some point I guess, but the sim is evolving so lowly that there is little hope for our generation of players. Maybe our grandchildren ?

Ice Cold in Alex or Eating in ...
Well there was Flight of the Intruder back in 1990 for the Amiga that was set in Vietnam, I think it was also available on the PC.

Still a lot of fun too. Flew some MP with a buddy just this weekend.

And aren't interested in doing US and Brit a/c as they should be.

DCS is a prime example with a '43 Spit vs late '44 German a/c.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.
