I'm shocked that no one posted anything about the Edmund Fitzgerald. I think this is the first time in years that it's sinking wasn't commemorated here.

I had actually thought about posting it in the emotional song thread.

Until very recently, last ten years, I thought it was a song about a ship sinking in the 1800's. It came as a total shock when I found out that it was about a "modern" ship that sank in the 1970's. I was ten when the ship went down and eleven when the song came out so my impression of the song had always been colored by my youthful first impressions.

They should have known it was going to happen the second they named the ship. It's like they didn't even listen to all the words of the song!

At 7 PM the main hatchway gave in..

Such a chilling song.

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

the Arthur Anderson was monitoring the Fitz, because her radar was damaged, and told us on the radio, that the Fitz was there one minute and gone the next. When the Woodrush made ready to respond from Duluth, we already knew it would be a miracle to find any survivors. I certainly felt more fragile getting underway on Lake Superior after that. RIP

Years ago I saw a documentary about the Fitz, in which the ship’s bell was recovered and rung once as each crewman was named at a ceremony. It left tears running down my face.

Don`t worry Phil, I do to. My father worked on those ore carriers in the 50s and knows all to well about having to search for a missing boat. He gave it up after that.

Knockoff political posting in Community Hall. Not the place for it.

Look for me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Tic Toc...or anywhere you may frequent, besides SimHq, on the Global Scam Net. Aka, the internet.
I am not there, never have been or ever will be, but the fruitless search may be more gratifying then the "content" you might otherwise be exposed to.
