Rogue One was shot digitally so there are no reels for the monsters to eat. smile

I have to say, I've enjoyed the new films, for different reasons. Were they perfect? No, but so far they have been fun and a much needed fresh breath into a universe done wrong by Ep. 1-3.

I prefered Rogue One over phantom, clone. Sith, star wars, jedi or force or jedi 2

But I'm strange

Not seen Solo yet...

I definitely liked all the prequels better than TLJ (though that is not saying much; probably the only modern Sci Fi movie I've seen that I'd rate below TLJ is Battlefield: Earth). TFA falls somewhere in between TPM and AotC, but definately worse than RotS.

I enjoyed Rogue and Solo, especially the former, more than any of the prequel or sequel movies, but I do see Mr. Blastman's point, and in general I think, just like with the prequels, there are some major conflicts between plot and continuity with the follow-on movie. For me, the biggest problem is that the opening scrawl of ANH talks about the Rebel's winning a major victory over the Imperial fleet. The term Pyrrhic does not do that "victory" justice. Seeing the Rebel flagship, and most of its escorts and fighters captured or destroyed, and a handful of surviving light ships fleeing with their tails between their legs while the entire planetary strike force is wiped out hardly looks like a "victory."

I have changed my view of Star Wars to be a series of decidedly one-sided propaganda pieces for the Rebel Alliance. That neatly lifts some of the cognitive dissonance and continuity issues. It also explains the sometimes baffling attitude of the rebels towads their defeats:
  • The Jedi council, being the most powerful organization in the galaxy, and without effective judicial or political oversight, still contemplating that the elimination of "the dark side" by a chosen one (Skywalker sen. being the sole contender for the job at the time) might bring the "balance" that had been prophecied (and balance he delivers)
  • Said redeclaration of losing most of their fleet in Rogue One as a "victory" in Leia's conversation with Vader
  • Glossing over/combating the analysis of the Endor Holocaust
  • At the end of TLJ, after losing the entire fleet but the Millenium Falcon due to incompetence (the Holdo maneuver could have been performed before the loss of other ships), Leia says that the rebels "have all we need: Hope" which is, if anything, the kind of dangerous delusion that you often see among radicalized terror groups at the brink of destruction

Just a few examples.

I have another theory concerning the Star Wars franchise.

It was never designed nor meant to be analyzed to such a high degree as all of us here are guilty of doing. smile

Lucas from the very outset designed Star Wars to be just like the campy and "tongue in cheek" Flash Gordon 1930's serials and I see no evidence so far that Disney is straying much from that.

Star Wars ain't Blade Runner or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Silent Running or Dune.

These are but a few reasons why I've of late begun to respect the Empire more. I often wondered why the Empire was really so bad, even when I was a kid, when they maintained order and prosperity in a galaxy wrought with corruption and scheming. And then along came the rebels... Blasting their cannons and lasers and suiciding their fleets into Imperial armadas and finally losing an entire planet because a few royals on the world had the audacity to oppose the Empire and endanger billions of innocent people.

It must have been very, very hard for that imperial officer to push that red button, sending everyone to their doom. Imagine the PTSD he must be experiencing. Billions of lives snuffed out in an instant.

Horrible.

And the blood was ALL on Leia's shoulders.

This doesn't mean I should hate Han. I never will. Han was only a brazen opportunist, anyways, and was trying to survive in that hell-hole place, and so happened to stumble upon a princess and her jewels, so can you blame him? He had to milk that teat until it was empty.
