And I bet she'd still say it wasn't big enough...

I hope it is left intact. I'm not remotely into cut gemstones, but I definitely can appreciate such a find in geologic and method of formation terms.

Was just reading a bit about that and learned that emerald is rarer and more valuable than diamond, and that this rock is likely hundreds of millions of years old.

You can probably feed the entire country of Zambia by selling that huge chunk of emerald!

and then they will break it into smaller jewerely and the small bits that cant be use are safe kept to NEVER be used. i work one year at the production building of H Stern in Rio. while they maximize obvioulsy to prevent loss there are marble sized rocks that just go to the forever alone bin.

Not all of it. Possibly none of it (on Earth)

Water on it's own is pretty stable, but water is also quite reactive with a lot of other substances. It's not called "The Universal Solvent" for nothing. Plus it's a compound, not an element.

Of course the ORIGINAL water on Earth would have been billions of years old - but that was frozen at near absolute zero in the vacuum of space.

Photosynthesis converts water and carbon dioxide into carbohydrates and oxygen. Respiration reverses the process. (I stole that last sentence btw).

How much of the original water has been destroyed, and how much is "new"? How many "generations"?

To these questions I have no answer...

I was impressed when they said the gem weighed over 1.1kg and then the article tells us they found an even larger gem in 2010 at 6225 carats!
