Perhaps this is covered by the rule that gentleman do not discuss their scores, as Willy reminded Bruno. Nevertheless....

What was your best score? I've been flying in WOFFWORLD on and off for almost ten years. I've never managed to get near MvR's 80 kills. My best score was 50, with a German aviator who recently died at the hands of a two-MG Tripe when a snap-shot took out the controls during a low-level kurvenkampf. My next aviator, "Tony" Michaels, died this morning, mortally wounded by the first burst from a gunner in a Roland. Yea, I had the rare advantage of height and made the mistake of attacking from above. Poor Tony! He had jsut returned from leave after being awarded the Victoria Cross.

Looking back over the years, my best scores were a few that reaching into the low forties. My recent score of 50 I attribute to the addition of Track IR. But on the whole, few of my pilots ever reach 30. Most do not reach 20. I'd guess my ten year average is about 15.

I'd point out that I fly with assorted aids, or cheats if you prefer. I'm 66, my eyes are bad, and I suffer from both blue-green and red-brown colorblindness. And I still have trouble reaching 30 kills, let alone 80!

So I thought I'd ask how well you are doing. What's your best score? What's your average score?

I always scored myself on flying time and sorties biggrin. The game world seems to have a way of catching up with you, and usually it's waiting for your number to come up.
But to your point , I think the highest I had before falling victim to some un-natural calamity was 64. These of course were "confirmed" , my claim list was much higher haha.
I swear you drop a enemy machine right in front of the Adjutant, nearly hitting the Major's prize hound with the who squadron present and THINK they'd notice!!
Turns out they gave credit to one of the new chaps in the group. Charity work! rolleyes

The career I'm working on now was started in October 1916 with an Albatros I so its been easy hunting from the start. He's made it to Bloody April of 1917, but i've had several
close calls (Near Collision, Forced Landing in NML after flak destroyed lower wing, and fleeing from 5 or 6 N17 & Spad7s running with some FEs) so i've been sailing the skies
with other pilots as I fear if i'm not vested with the time to sit down for a flight with him, his career might be over before he rolls off the field, haha. 55 Sorties, 33 claims with 19 confirmed, and just under 50 hours flying!

Another fun one i'm having was Pfalz Career starting in Verdun Jan 1, 1915. It's now May 22, 1915 and he's racked up 70 sorties with 94.65 flying hours!. And managed 1 confirmed victory!!
Much fun. Wish i had more time for lying lately!

I don't remember the score, the number of sorties or time aloft but I had a German pilot make it to the end! He started in late 1916 and survived to Armistice. My most recent guy just had a midair and burned. He had almost 30 victories. He was flying Fokker Drls... my favorite mount. I rarely get shot or damaged when flying those and easily out manouver multiple adversaries. If I get overwhelmed I just spin away. Most of a group of enemies will let me go so that only one or a couple of 'victims' will come on down to 'play'. They are quickly dispatched. I fly home, have a meal then play chess! lol

I’m impressed. Maybe someday I’ll make it all the way.

I haven’t been able to crack 20 kills and last more than 3 months. Presently I have a Pup pilot with 18 confirmed out of 34 claims with 66 Squadron. He started beginning of March 1917, survived Bloody April and is now flying in late May. I’ll see how far he goes. Another pilot with Jast 2 who has 12 confirmed started in September 1916 and ias closing in on 90 days survival. Mind you I have Captain Owen Triggers in his Be2c who started operations in 01/1915 and is now in March, so again just 90 days at the front. That would be the extent of my best score and career duration for my current pilots with experience. I have a french pilot and a DH2 pilot (3 kils) who have only been at the front for 45 days. Voila.
Cheers!,

34 claims? Then you have more than 18.

I play the mid-level claims. I once brought down an EA on my own base. I didn’t get credit. No one in my flight did! That’s when I turned off hard claims. Enough was enough.

Didnt Willie sat that it was a Sqn rule that gentlemen never discuss their achievements. , But He never said how many rules the Sqn had ? I do remember that I had a pilot make it over 50 hours flight time Then they did him in.

Hi Nowi.

Yes 34 claims, but only 18 of them confirmed. I use the historical claims (normal) when in the campaign. With one of my other pilots, Jasta 5, Just like you I was defending our airfield in my last mission and downed a Nieport 17 over Mont St. Martin airfield with my flight present and the combat occurring over the airfield itself at 300-400m. The Nieport crashed approximately 200m south of the airfield. Claimed the Nieport with “no witnesses” and added in my claim report narrative that the combat was possibly observed by airfield troops and ground personnel. I didn’t list any of my B Flt members as they were to far away but were in and around the area when the combat took place. As I was somewhat more than expecting the claim to get confirmed I found to my chagrin it was denied due to lack of witnesses. Oh well such is the claim system works...frustrating but understandable I suppose. I live to fight another day. I’m contemplating as you did putting the claims at mid level if the denials for my “clear” victories persist. At present I’ll keep the claims at the historical or normal setting pending my patience tolerance for clear claims denials as the campaign progresses...Cheers!

I fly at that middle setting and I now have 53 and 5 unconfirmed. So even at that setting I get about 10% unconfirmed, which seems realistic.

I fly with the realistic claim setting. My best score is my current DID pilot with 28 confirmed. He has 51 claims, but they all seem to go down on the other side of the lines with no witness. I do make sure to only claim the ones I know I finished (Flamers, Craters or wingless wonders).

That’s a large percentage of unconfirmed. Too large in my opinion. That’s why I fly with the middle selection. And even with that I get about 10% unconfirmed, which seems realistic to me.

Actually Nowi, your 10% is way too light, historically speaking. The average denied claims for our RL counterparts in the Great War hovered between 30% to 40% with some unfortunates having over half their claims denied. This varied from air service to air service but few, if indeed any, were seeing 90% of their claims approved.

Three RFC Brass Hats were strolling down a street in London. Two walked into a bar, the third one ducked.

Just an update for my Jasta 5 campaign. 5 enemy front line patrol missions; 4 combat encounters; 3 claims submitted with the regular/realistic setting (haven’t switched it to mid level, left it as is). 1 had a witness the other 2 no witnesses. Commandant confirmed 2 out of 3 smile Both were the no witness ones..go figure! Combat took place over the lines ( German side, just slightly) between Courcelette & Pozieres. Added in my claims report combat witnessed by army troops; crash observed by myself including ground troops. If I was a betting man chances are I’d say that my narrative mentioning the ground troops observing combat and crash of those Nieuports didn’t have so much to do with my claims being confirmed...jmho..not saying I’m right mind you but stranger things have happened. 2 of those a/c were flamers the other was circling out of control and I observed it crash...for all of them. Anhow so goes trying to figure it out
Cheers!!

LOL. that sounds like it must be a FRENCH pilot. one of my French pilots has made nine claims thus far and only TWO of them were confirmed.

if the victim falls in German lines it doesn't matter - you're not getting that confirmation. even if you shot off a wing, set them on fire, killed the pilot, it went into a death spiral and burned down half of a small forest, AND you have three witnesses who returned to base... they just don't like to confirm that victory. (yes! that actually happened to me! okay, maybe not the forest fire...)

I'd love to see a parody of The Blue Max with Bruno screaming at Herr Hauptmann that he (Stachel) has a screen shot and video of the kill!
