Several times I have had the engine just lose all power and eventually stop, although no battle damage and using WEP maybe a little, but very short burst with large intervals. All systems check as working ok. It says to try an manual start, but that never seems to work. I am flying typically with throttle wide open though. Has anyone been able to get it started again with a manual start?

Here are a few possibilities that come to mind.

If the engine fails, the oil and/or radiator temperature will usually show as maxed out. That can be a clue as to what is happening.
Failing to properly adjust the mixture can cause the engine to lose power and quit (if you aren't using the auto setting in workshops).
Flying a full throttle and revs all the time might be up'ing your engine failure rate. Use the governor (shift+P) to lower revs to 2800 for climbing, then, for cruise govern to 2600 and throttle back.
Plain old bad luck?

Leaving it at low idle can also have the same effect. If you're in the circuit keep an eye on your radiator and mixture to keep her ticking over. Don't leave the throttle at idle for too long in flight.

Could be some component failure too, random failures are in.

I have had that problem with the 109 leaving it on idle too long the motor stops. I just let down for landing at a longer distance away.
