Don't do it. There are issues with it. Reports so far have been lost data and other not quite so serious issues. I did both my machines and both have an issue with the notification area. Not a show-stopper but I'm rolling back until M$ sort their $hit out.

Well I couldn't roll back so did complete re-installs on both machines back to 1803. Lesson learned, always wait a week before updating and don't be so quick to delete the previous installation.

There have been several bugs reported with this latest Windows 10 update, such as incompatibilities with Intel Display Audio device drivers, and the Task Manager app not showing correct CPU usage. But the biggest issue was the deletion of user files located in the C:/Users/[username]/Documents/ folder.
"I have just updated my Windows using the October update (10, version 1809). It deleted all my files of 23 years in amount of 220GB. This is unbelievable", said .. a Windows 10 user complaining about the issue on the Microsoft support forums. I've never put any files (other than easily restored applications and temporary) only on the C: drive. Reason: Windows is always messing with the C: drive. So far, no noticed issues with the new update on my machine. However, I don't recommend anyone else install it. I did it by stupid-mistake. As noted above, one should wait a week on new versions.

I don't think I have any documents in that folder, I'll have to check next time I boot the Win10 install. Most of my few PC documents are off the C drive, as Allen mentions. I've noticed no other issues, however.
Plus, after becoming sorely dissatisfied with how MS has handled some aspects of Win10, I've abandoned it for anything but gaming, a good while back.

As I rarely game nowadays I was thinking about dual-booting Win 10/Linux. I like Linux, but always feel more 'at home' in Windows, which isn't surprising really,I've been using it since 3.1X

They're taking it slow this time. They are doing the testing they skipped for the "problem" 1809 initial release version. They claim to have found and fixed the problems. Microsoft has started the process of re-releasing Windows 10 October 2018 Update after the initial release was put to a stop due to a data deletion bug. Windows 10 1809 Build 17763.17 (KB4467228) is now available to Windows Insiders in the Slow and Release Preview rings. The company assured that it will take a slow and steady approach, testing the latest build in the Insider community before making it available to the general public.
In a blog post explaining the bug, Microsoft said that the only a few users experienced data loss – “one one-hundredth of one percent of version 1809 installs.” It added that the company has now fully investigated all reports of data loss and has identified and fixed all known issues in the update, and conducted internal validation. Since I stuck with the "problem" 1809 initial release, I'm in the process of installing their Cumulative Update for 1809

I checked tonight, no missing data on my 1809 install. A small update came down as I shut down, but I didn't check what it was.

Microsoft Begins Rolling Out Windows 10 October 2018 Update Build 17763.104 to Insiders
From data deletion to driver issues brought by Intel and HP, the company has been releasing critical updates to address the issues for the minority of users who have already installed Windows 10 October 2018 Update and are experiencing problems.
If everything goes smoothly with today’s build, it is likely that Microsoft will finally be able to push the latest version of Windows 10 to the public later this week or next Tuesday.
