The "baby blitz" January to May 1844.

This started life as one of Flyright's ideas, but it lacked the essential aircraft, the Luftwaffe's excuse for a stratiegic bomber, the He 177.

I started the model, somewhat later Flyright finished it, and then Iron Mike added his great finishing touches.

The upshot is that we don't have a Steinbock scenario, but we do have a great model.

The question is, where have you been hiding this thing?

And can you get me a copy for the SWOTL tribute scenario I'm finishing up?

Jeeze, I love that beast.

Guess I'll have to smooth up some of the corners and such, add the newer props but that is just beautiful.

Maybe I'll have to add a flaming element to the back of one of the engines though. Seems they burst into flames on a regular basis.

The night version is based upon the camo worn by KG100's aircraft during the 1944 operation. I only did 12 because there were never more than that operational in January/Feburary 44. The green/brown birds are from later in the year. And RW, the nose is too angular. It was nicely rounded. And, it needs a cockpit if y'all want to fly it.

And here is the actual cockpit...

Those flying desks in the Reich Air Ministry also expected it to be used for dive bombing.

Mike - do you still have those skins?

I've got a good memory and have an entire thread posted on the model build and skinning of the squardon.

Yes Mogggy, I'll see it I can get into the ftp. It gets a bit wonky for me at times.

I can round the nose a bit.

Any pictures of the dive brakes?

I'd imagine that was a hell of a ride dropping into a 70 degree dive in a plane as big as a B-17.

Also, the cockpit from the He111 would work just fine for this bird.

Mogggs look in your folder. I managed to get in for a bit. The day and night versions are there as well as a Henshel anti-shipping guided missile carrier.

Ray, Only the first prototype He 177 A-0 had barrel type dive brakes (like a Ju-88 carried) installed and only tested in shallow dive then the brakes were abandoned. The RLM was easily convinced that the airframe was not able to withstand any type of steep dive, and, AAA made using a dive bomber a very live ending experience.

The glazing, shape, and instrument panels are not the same on both machines. I would not like to see the 111 cockpit grafted on. Perhaps it could be used as a starting point for the pilot seat and peddles but, the instruments are totally different. Also, the extreme forward position of the cockpit meant no wing view for the pilot. The glazing on the Ar-234B is closer but only the nose itself., not the entire windscreen.

Brill - thanks Mike. Ray is best to get those as they are probably the latest version of the model we have.

I found this view of the cockpit way back we first started on the model:

Do I see some pix of new Dunkirk skins in the folder as well?

The model I use was re-worked a bit by me. The usual bits of rearranging of panels so skinning was easier and the panel lines matched up on the finished skin. If Ray wants to mod I recommend using the set from my folder as a starting point.

Yes, I can't post new photos at this time. Those are a few captures from the Dunkirk set. I'm working on the Br 693 now but, it is slowing me down since it needs a boat load of panel pounding to get the seams and lines to run straight.

Many thanks. I am working on/off on the Farman. Another ugly French bomber smile

The He111 cockpit is just a starting point.

Moving the gauges, adjusting the wing view and moving cockpit bracing are maybe a hours worth of work.

The model itself is a much bigger project.

FWIW, since I'm close to finishing the SWOTL scenario I'm going to move this one up the to-do list as it will fit right in.
