This isn't a perfect or high fidelity recreation of a real mission but the combined real mission audio audio and CGI visual representation in VR is pretty awe inspiring at times. This is one thing VR excels at, even with the current level of technology/resolution it can evoke emotion in a way that other media can't.

I put it on my wishlist on Steam so I can try it when I someday in the long forward future get a VR set.

I bought my Oculus Rift for flight sims, I can't lie, but some of the best experiences I have had with it have been with educational "sims" like the one in the OP and the Apollo 11 Vr Experience: http://immersivevreducation.com/apollo-11-vr/

I still get chills every time I experience Apollo 11 liftoff and being in lunar orbit.

I really want to try VR. Like you F4U,I just want it for sims and stuff like this. I have little to no interest in all this hand waving and VR shooters. I think the Rift will suit my needs but the price is a sticking point, plus I believe that my GTX970 is 'entry level' for VR.

I really want to try it in a flight sim, but I'm confused as to how you use the keyboard? That and the fact I get really car sick!!!!

I bought just the headset for $500. About 5 weeks later the complete headset AND controllers dropped to $400. I was pissed. Tried to get NewEgg to give me some sort of break but they refused, last time I'll ever buy from them. Anyway, although I use my OR primarily for flight sims I do now wish I had the Touch Controllers. My oldest son bought an OR with Touch controllers and there are some amazing things you can do with them, way beyond just VR shooters etc. There are several things on my wish list, some free even, that require Touch.

HOTAS is a must. I have CH stick, throttle, pedals. I've never been car sick or sea sick, and VR flight has only given me very mild "light headedness" once or twice when i first started using it and I really slammed the stick around.

The awesome "Apollo 11 VR" program has been updated with new textures and greater detail and released as "Apollo 11 VR HD".

Not free to current owners but cheap and well worth it.

Thanks for the heads up. Still can't afford it. I had saved up $400, because I need to upgrade both my GPU and get the headset, but a teen I know who doesn't have the best parent (Last time he talked to his father, it was to tell him that he had a newborn sister) was helping his mother (she isn't great either) do some cleaning of a vacated apartment and found a computer. It wouldn't boot, so he asked me to look at it. I found that the RAM was missing, the GPU was a R9 480 and worked. The case was trash and the smell of weed was horrible. So I took it and spent $350 to get him a 23 inch 1080p monitor, keyboard, a mouse, a mouse pad, RAM, and a new case. I had an extra SSD to toss into the computer and gave him a USB Logitech G35. that I found replacement pads for $5

I'm so excited to give him his Christmas gift. USPS delayed the delivery of the monitor and RAM, so it will be next weekend, but I can't wait. I have an extra Office license and I'll put that in so he can type papers at home. I am just giddy, totally worth waiting another 3-6 months for a VR set.

Oh, and he likes Rainbow Six: Siege, so I am going to get him a gift copy of Squad. I love Christmas!

Bought the lad an Oculus for Christmas so just had him download this "film". Strapped myself in and oh my goodness!!! Totally took my breath away and left me feeling rather emotional. I know I was sat in a nice warm room etc etc and nowt was ever going to happen, but blimey, that's about as close as I've ever felt to reality in a computer simulated world. Thanks for the heads up F4, bloody brilliant.

Trust me on one more, only ten bucks: https://store.steampowered.com/app/953840/Apollo_11_VR_HD/

EDIT: Correction, only $5 now! Buy the "Apollo 11 VR & Apollo 11 VR HD BUNDLE". For some reason it's cheaper, but only install the HD one. I've had both, the original was great but the HD version ads more details/textures.

As soon as the price drops below £300 I think I'm going to try VR. My mum would be blown away by the bombing raid experience. Then I might drop her into a Spitfire cockpit because she's never going to get a ride in the real thing, that's too expensive over here and she's now 82. Although I thought wing-walking would be too much for her at 50 but she proved otherwise.

£300=$380

Oculus Rift was $349/£275 just a week ago in the US, but I see Amazon has now bumped it back up to $399/£315
