When the first widescreen monitors came out, they usually distorted the image. I can remember playing Silent Hunter 3 and having the image stretch horizontally.

Some of you must be using these 35” wider screen monitors. Does the same thing happen?

Thanks.

If you're referring to the 21:9 "Ultra Widescreen" aspect ratio, that's what I have, but it's 34" (LG 34UC89G). Whether a specific game can support higher/wider resolutions is actually determined by each game. Not looking at the moment, but IIRC WOFF UE seemed to adjust the aspect ratio in-game to 21:9 format as expected.

Older games might be expected to behave otherwise; I still use some games originally written for 800x600 (4:3 aspect ratio) and they will often just center a 4:3 image on the screen by showing black "pillar boxes" at each side. Depending on the monitor and the software (and sometimes, GPU, to a lesser extent), there may be adjustments for whether the image is 'centered', 'cropped', 'stretched', etc. when it's not in the display's native format.

Just to let you know, since you have a 1080 Ti card, you can run a WOFF UE & WOTR on a 32" 4k 16:9 G-sync monitor with no problems like me.

CPU = i9 11900K
GPU = RTX 3080 Ti
Monitor = ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX 2160p G-sync

I ultimately decided to go with the Acer Predator Z35P bmiphz 35" Curved 1800R QHD (3440x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC VA Monitor. I like curved monitors. I've had one for two years. And the 35" curved is amazing with TrackIr.Truly immersive.

I doubt I could tell the difference between 3440 and 3840. It's Gsync so I can run at 120, with 120 fps. I get 60 fps at 12x. Sometimes more.

Total War: Rome II is also incredible.

Thanks for your advice.
