Brother is having problems with coyotes but can't shoot them as the area he lives in is a no shooting area.

Read the wolf urine helps. Does it really help or is just some old wife's tale?

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Unless he’s smack in the middle of town, I’d say a crossbow & spotlight over an electronic call at night, and keep it to himself. For that matter, it’s rare for a single gunshot to draw much attention. The second is what has people listening.

Fish & Game will often trap them or have trappers do it.

Are they getting close enough to his house that he can get at them with a slingshot? Like NH2112 said it may be a job for animal control.

Wish I knew the answer. We have lots of them right in our area. They just walk right down the middle of the street like they own the place. They sun themselves on peoples driveways. Plenty of dogs have become victims. I have a 20 gauge shotgun ready just in case one gets a bit too froggy on my lot. The local animal control can't seem to do a #%&*$# thing about them. We hear them howl every night. Creeps me out.

Yes one was on the back deck.

He has a paint ball gun he loads with solid balls but the coyotes being so skittish it is hard to get close enough - only has one hit.

He lives out in the country so F&G/animal control don't do nothing.

It's been at least a couple of years since I've heard them howling here at night (assuming it was coyotes).

Freaky (turn down volume!)...

No coyotes here but I hear fox howls on a regular basis. It sounds like someone is being killed.

Maybe .177 would be a better caliber for the area? Quieter, at least.

If one is that close to your house it'd seem you ought to be able to legally shoot it - it's not like you're hunting...

But, if they're so skittish you can't get near them what exactly IS the problem? I once lived in a semi rural area where packs of them would run right down the street, they never gave me (or anyone else that I know of) any trouble...

Consider: Wild Animal Trap: Armadillos/Coyote...5 in Overall Wd, 17 in Overall Ht, Steel

Once he has it in there, he can decide what to do with it... end it, transport it, or have animal control come and deal with it. Repeat as necessary.

I was thinking about what CyBerkut just mentioned. Maybe he can get his own trap and then "deal" with it as he sees fit. I hope he's able to find a solution. What kind of people are the local police? Does it have some salt of the earth people that would be willing to help him and actually get something done about it for him and others around him?

If he's in the country how about a quality pellet gun? Unassuming and no ruckus.

Zamzow, this is Canada where guns are evil.

The problem is it is a small pack and they are not so skittish if coming upon a person walking alone on one of the paths.

It is not unknown that they will attack people, https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/coyotes-kill-toronto-singer-in-cape-breton-1.779304

A cousin who lives on the other side of the region had one of his sheep taken by coyotes, yet couldn't do anything about it.

I would still like to know about how effective wolf urine is.

Having your livestock eaten and not being legally allowed to protect them, your property and YOURSELF really ruffles my feathers. Perhaps that cousin of yours could get a donkey. I've seen quite a few informational videos of farmers and ranchers who specifically keep donkeys in with their herds to shepherd and protect them and they do so very well.

That’s true, I’ve read that not even mountain lions will mess with a donkey. Their kicks are devastating.

Me and some friends once saw a mountain lion, but from so far away we weren't positive of what we were really seeing.

About 30 seconds later the HUGEST buck I've ever seen (definitely bigger than a donkey, although possibly of similar weight) just running for it's life. We were up on a hill, and that buck high tailed it out of there all the way to the horizon, maybe 1.5 miles. Too bad it didn't know it was running straight into a lakeshore peninsula!

I'm not so sure a donkey would intimidate a cougar - a well fed one probably, but a hungry one...........

I thought maybe it'd be easier for him to get a pellet gun but I guess he can't do that either depending on other onerous restrictions. Does no shooting include slingshots?

Well, to be serious....

Human urine will stop most mammals except rats, skunks, opossum, and bats. Even raccoons won't go there.

I lived outside for five years. In the first year my "camp" had cougar, boar, deer, fox, coyote, and other tracks. Within 20 feet of my "bed".

I started "a perimeter". It worked.

But this was a "choke point" that I only had to maintain about a hundred feet.

Forget "Wolf urine".

Piss in a container and spread it around. Animals won't like it. You might not either depending on circumstance.

But animals really hate human urine.

Never too late, I'm 62 and still shoot my compound bow, been shooting a bow since I was about 8 years old, and there are a few in the club that are 20+ years older than me and shoot compound.
I have 2 compounds one 60lbs draw and the other 40lbs, a 32lb recurve and 25lb flat bow.
