Good to see the emergency procedure worked out.

According to the below an engine exploded. This incident along with the purposefully drilled hole recently discovered in an on orbit Soyuz capsule is not good news for the Russian space program, nor the US program that depends on it as a taxi service. NASA needs to get the funds flowing that insures SpaceX Dragon 2 flies with crew SOON. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...onauts-return-Earth-ballistic-entry.html

I miss the space shuttle. Hubble lost another gyro and we've no way to repair it. I'm glad I got to see a launch in person, though. Coolest thing ever. Agree on Space X, or something. We can't rely on our enemy any longer for travel to space.

Let's be honest here. The space shuttle was little more than a glorified supply truck. It was not space exploration by any means.

Let's be honest here. The space shuttle was little more than a glorified supply truck. It was not space exploration by any means. A very expensive supply truck. But NASA is doing it's best with SLS / Orion to make Shuttle look cheap by comparison. Meanwhile SpaceX and Blue Origin are slashing the cost of space access.

Let's be honest here. The space shuttle was little more than a glorified supply truck. It was not space exploration by any means. The shuttle was never intended to be used for space exploration. It was strictly a LEO vehicle and nothing more--and space truck was absolutely in its job description, along with extravehicular activities such as servicing satellites, conducting research and eventually construction of the ISS(which it was quite instrumental in helping us complete). While expensive, the machine had definite utility and helped to get us to where we are now in space. I know the latest, trendy thing is to kick the old bird while she's down, but she was pretty inspirational for her time, and inspiration is what leads our youth to pursue science instead of the easiest, quickest path towards money.

Nonsense - PLENTY of science was done on the shuttle, and also it was space survival exploration, space operations exploration, and yes on top of that it was a supply truck too. If we get a manned mission to Mars going the experiences gained through the shuttle will be playing a HUGE part in it.
