Let me start by saying my comments are not meant in any way to drag down other people's efforts. These are my opinions and I hold the folks who attempted this in high regard. Many of the contributors are giants in the EAW modding world. Much of what I do comes from standing on their shoulders.
That said, the WWI scenario was a fiasco for the community.
The amount of time spent on a project that was a stretch for the EAW engine was completely wasted. I said so at the time but I was ignored.
We had a lot of contributors back then and some of them went down the rabbit hole of attempting to turn the finest WWII combat flight sim into a so-so WWI flight sim.
The game wasn't designed for the flight models nor the strategy component built into the programming. In addition, the 3dz system does not lend itself to bi-plane configurations. That wing over the cockpit and all those struts are a #%&*$# to render.
It went on for years. Guys posting pictures daily of new colorful skins of all the favorite WWI aircraft but if you looked at any of them in the game they were a complete mess R/S wise.
Don't forget, I'm no perfectionist when it comes to R/S problems, If I get to 98-99% compliance I'm good but these models were dreadful.
FWIW, I rebuilt some of them using my "empty F" method, some fancy piggybacking and some creative texture work, then modified them as needed and added them to the Mediterranean aircraft inventory.
I was able to fashion some credible FM's to go along with the models but these planes are notably faster that the WWI planes so it was doable. Getting a Zeppelin to fly in EAW would be quite an accomplishment.
Of course, this is a hobby and modders can go off in any direction they chose but I can tell you as a retired Director of Manufacturing I would have killed this project dead before it hit the production stage by whoever proposed it and probably fired the guy.
Anyhow, no offense, just my two cents.
