Longest is a 2001 Jaguar XK8 convertible that I have had since 2003. 15 years.

Shortest was a 1984 Ford Thunderbird TurboCoupe. My ex-wife just couldn’t drive it. Couldn’t get inertia and throttle modulation right. Constantly in and out of turbo boost. Made for a choppy ride. We had several fights about it. Had it for 17 months. Car was good, but it just wasn’t working out.

I tend to keep cars for a long time.

Longest is my MG ZT260, had it for 14 years next month, shortest was the Subaru Impreza WRX STi PPP which I had for about a year, chopped it in for the Range Rover Sport as I didn't need two 300bhp+ sports cars … tho the twin turbo 3.6l RRS TDV8 is now at over 300bhp and I have had it for 11 years now.

Oh, we had a Jeep for about nine months - I guess this was about ten years ago.

Bought it new, and the darned thing was a wreck magnet. Three times she was rammed into - never my fault - and repaired. Third time was a charm for me, so we traded it in for a Mustang.

Dealer didn't ask if it had ever been in a wreck, didn't check history, and two weeks later actually called to say they over-estimated the trade-in value once it was discovered. I politely asked him if they entertain customers who call them two weeks after purchase to say they paid too much for a vehicle they bought, or refund the difference between what they actually paid and what they now think is fair.

That pretty much ended the conversation.

A few weeks later I went by the dealership for work on my F-150,* and the sales manager and I had a cup of coffee and laughed about it. He made the salesman call me as a teaching point that one should always, always ask if a trade-in has been damaged, and knew I wouldn't cuss him out (or hand over any cash).

[edit]

I guess my current F-150 is the longest in time, having bought it new in 2008.

* Our local Ford dealership is the exception to the rule when it comes to maintenance. More than once they've fixed something for no charge, and have come up less expensive on work than other places. The only hook is that they have to use factory parts - and when I had to have the windshield replaced, actually had a window company come out and do it instead, leaving their invoice for me at the dealership. A factory windshield was 600 bucks just by itself, where an off brand was 250, installed. For that money I can live without a F-150 logo in the top center.

Shortest was a used 98 Saturn SL2. it was a piece of junk that kept breaking down and went through more oil than fuel. It was like a hydra, fix one problem or leak and 2 more would spring up. Only had it for 6 or 7 months.

Longest is a 2010 Mitsubishi lancer for 8 years now and still going.

Mine may be hard for people to believe. I have photos, but they are locked up in Photobucket. I own a 1979 F-150 I bought from a friend in 1992. It was my daily work rig, loaded with tools, until last year. I parked it for a couple of weeks when I didn't need it and rats ate the wiring harness. I'm planning on getting it going again this winter. Right now my daily driver is my 1976 F-250 Crew Cab. I bought it from another friend in 1994 or '95 and rebuilt it from the frame up about six years ago. My wife bought a Nissan Xterra new in 2004. When she wanted a new car last year the dealer wouldn't give a decent trade-in value, so we kept it. It runs like a top at 177k.

Had it for about 3 months before my dad sold it.

Bought a Suzuki GS 650 Katana for a very reasonable price knowing it had a dodgy 2nd gear, dogs were worn out, spent just over £100 for a new gear cog and gaskets, spent about a week stripping it down and rebuilding it. Got it ready and took it out for it's first run with me after my work at 23:00, seen some friends with bikes in the carpark near the harbour and pulled in to have a chat. I wasn't there but 5 minutes when one guy offered me nearly double what I paid for the bike, I told him I only just got it going and give me a chance to run it a bit, 18 months later he paid me what he had first offered for the bike. That was very nearly the quickest turn round on a vehicle I had.

Shortest was a 1981 Toyota Celica GT. I had it about six months. It was cursed from the beginning. It got hit from behind while stopped at a light. Turns out the dudes that hit us had tons of stolen stereo equipment in their car. They were trying to get rid of it when the cops pulled up. I remember not feeling that soar until the next day. I could barely stand up.

Longest. 1999 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 truck. Had it for 14 years. Put over 150,000 miles on it. Traded it in one day for a new Corolla. Although I loved the Corolla, I still feel today that it was a bad decision.

Longest, current vehicle purchased in 2011. 2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L with RES. Had 91,000 on and today its 138,769. Used basically as our vacation
vehicle. Still a top of the line car and drives fantastic.

Shortest. High School days always have a short life span. Worst was the 1972 AMC Gremlin I bought. It lasted all of year before being junked out.

VW Passat 1.9TDi estate 2006, after initial problems (never buy a new car, especially a new model I found out) 190,000 miles without major problems. Will run it into the ground as having diesel is like lhaving leprosy here now, and don't have to worry about the dogs making a mess of it.
Shortest was a Fiat 500 I had for a week, on discovering the floor was held in by underseal and yes, as vendor said it did 50 miles to the gallon, but that was in oil. Caused much embarrassment for my mother as I bought it off one of her church friends....so much for Christian values.

1995 Ford F-150. Bought it 2000 for $6K when it had 69K miles on it. Still have it but it now has 87K on it. Its a trash, lumber, furniture, mulch hauler and take the kids to karate truck.
Shortest 2009 Mazda 5 micro-van new for $17K when the kids were little. We traded it in for a 2014 new Honda Odyssey. Got $9K on the trade in which pretty much sealed the deal.

Longest was my 1971 Austin Cooper S. Got it in 1973 and drove it until 1986 when it expired from rust and unleaded fuel smile

Shortest was a GM brand, Chevy(?) GT bought used that didn't make it from the lot to the house before a lower radiator hose broke and I changed on the side of the freeway.
No way I'd do that now. I returned it two days later when something else made me unhappy.

The longest was a 1980 MB 5 cylinder turbo-diesel that I had to give up in a divorce. Think it ended up some 20 years in my name or hers combined.
Had some 200K miles on it at around 26 mpg. All the way to 31 mpg on the road.

Ooops, the 1998 MB 250 in the garage is coming up on 21 years next month. Still has under 110K miles on it.

The new RAV-4 sitting along side it may become the second shortest-owned by me vehicle. 450 miles and I still haven't warmed up to it.
Think I'm just missing my Toyota minivan. Anything you wanted to carry or do in it was fine. Darn thing just grew on me.
