Oh wait, no this is from Ghana so it might be legit!! Hello! Reply Asap, I am Mr. Collins Kwame, a banker here in Ghana. I write you this proposal in good faith hoping that I will rely on you. In 2007, Mr. Hudson who has your country in his file as his place of origin, made a fixed deposit of Eight Million, Five Hundred Thousand USA Dollars (US$8,500,000.00 with my bank. I was his account officer. Unfortunately, while on a business trip, he died in a deadly Tsunami earthquake in Sichuan China, in 2008 that killed many people. The management of our bank have been finding a means to reach him so as ascertain if he will want to roll over the deposit or have the contract sum withdrawn, when I discovered that this will happen, I learnt of his death, so I have tried to think up a procedure to preserve this fund and use the proceed for charity. Some directors have been trying to find out from me the information about this account and the owner, but I have kept it closed because, I know that if they become aware, they will corner the funds for themselves. Therefore, I am seeking your co-operation to present you as the one to benefit from his fund at his death since you are from the same country with him, so that my bank head quarters will pay the funds to you. I have done enough inside bank arrangement and only have to put in your details into the information network in the bank computers and reflect you as his next of kin. I immensely request for your optimum honesty and cooperation and Let me know your mind on this, and please do treat this information as Top secret. We shall go over the details once I receive your urgent response to my email - [co_kwame@hotmail.com], we can as well discuss this on phone. Send me your phone number for easy communication anticipating your communication. Best Regards, Mr. Collins Kwame.

You're too late, just so you know, don't bother, I've already claimed it and have sent Kwame the US$56,000 that is required to release the funds. Winnah!
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Totally fake. Everyone knows banks always capitalize USA DOLLARS when sending correspondence.

No kidding. The closest point of Sichuan China to the nearest large body of water is about 450 miles .
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

I write to contact you about a foreigner bearing the same name as yours, who died over a decade ago leaving behind an estate/capital usd12,800,000 here in DBS. However, the Investor died intestate, no next-of-kin, nobody came forward all these years to lay claim to the inheritance. I have decided to work with you to secure the funds, and propose a 40% offer for you. If you are interested, email me the following information stated below:- 1. RE-CONFIRM YOUR FULL NAMES: 2. CONTACT ADDRESS: 3. TELEPHONE NUMBER regards, Mr. David James C. Cheng

Ok, serious question here.
What kind of person would actually fall for a scam like this??? Have you ever looked into this "internet" thing? You should, you will find that the world has no shortage of all sorts of wackos, weirdos and gullible simpletons.

Ok, serious question here.
What kind of person would actually fall for a scam like this??? More than you'd think mate. It's a big issue here. Had it happen to an old neighbour of mine a few years ago. She was 80+, had the old courier fraud thing put upon her. The perps pick old sounding names from the phonebook etc. My neighbour was Audrey. Old name. Ring her, bamboozle her with legal stuff about police and the banks and how she had to withdraw 30k and give it to a courier who will make it safe somewhere. Luckily the little Asian courier turned up at her door when I was walking my very scary looking gsd past her house. She was in a state and asked me what was happening..... Well... Me and and dog detained the male until police arrived. He got two years. Not enough and Audrey died a year later from dementia type causes. I still think that incident sped up her decline she was never the same after. My dog taught me that day he didn't forget his training 🤭

Scams are so sophisticated now that I thought these '419' scams had disappeared from the crime scene. I recall the detrimental effect that falling for a scam had on the mental wellbeing of my Father-in-Law, a 'squared away' ex-Army Major. That was the false Microsoft 'you have a problem with your computer' one, endemic at the time. The vulnerability of older people is their inherent trust, especially for those who seem to be in authority. It is a sad world when trust and empathy are seen as a weakness.

The stuff that gets me PO'd is the pseudo government type, OPEN and RESPOND immediately mail crap from semi-legal insurance and referral type agencies. I just toss it all, but no doubt many elderly folks just do what these "officials" tell them.

Look for me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Tic Toc...or anywhere you may frequent, besides SimHq, on the Global Scam Net. Aka, the internet. I am not there, never have been or ever will be, but the fruitless search may be more gratifying then the "content" you might otherwise be exposed to.

Uuhhhh, that’s not a scam.
