Hi all,
I thought you might like to see the start of my next Wingnut Wings model - the Hansa-Brandenburg W.29 (CM3G version), No.2512 flown by Oberleutnant Friedrich Christian Christiansen of ’Seeflugstation 1’, from Zeebrugge in Belgium during July 1918.

So far I've completed the cockpit, which is now enclosed in the fuselage.
I'm currently modifying the Benz III engine supplied in the kit, which although good, either lacks detail or what detail is pre-molded needs to be changed.

The W.29 was a two seat float plane and as such is much larger than most of the single seaters I've built thus far.
I'm hoping to have this model on a water effects base - we'll see.

Who knows - with the release of WOTR I might have to consider WW2 kites in the future, but not right now.

Mike

Looking very good Sir! Can I assume the white stripes plastic running across the fuselage is for easy handling while painting?

Hi Rob,
Easy mistake to make given the glare on the photos.
Actually it's a metal wing spar supplied with the kit.
The model is a monoplane, but as it carried a crew of two, not to mention to large floats, the wings were necessarily large.
The metal spar is needed to support the weight of the wings,

Hi all,
The four crank case vents were cut from the photo-etch from 'RB Productions' - ‘RB Productions’ Radiator Mesh (RB-T027). These will be attached to the engine
after it has been painted, when they can be ‘weathered in’.

The engine control linkage is 0.4 mm Nickel-Silver micro-tube for the rods and 0.12 mm copper wire wound around 0.3 mm micro-tube. Again these will be fitted after the engine is installed.

Hi all,
Well the engine is done as far as I can go, so now it's onto the airframe.

Hi all,
Exhaust pipes painted and fitted.
Made from brass micro-tube as the kit items are solid molded and not hollow..

Hi all,
Front end completed as well as all decals (Aviattic) and smaller parts.
Next step is to assemble the wings and floats plus what rigging is required,

I've been building 1/72 most of my life, these days mostly for 3D hands-on wargaming. Ever since I first saw some of those larger-scale models I've been thinking about it. Looking good.

Some people are born stupid. I've had to work hard my whole life to get this way. I'm proud of the job I've done

Hi all,
Well the aircraft and ground equipment are finished.
The engine access panels will be displayed as removed.
All that's left now is to paint the figures and get it all in its display case.
I'll post completion shots in this thread soon.

Sailor_Steve:
Way waaaay back I used to build in 1/72 scale, but now I stick to 1/32 scale, as I find the level of detail a challenge.
That said the only problem with this scale, especially if you're building a collection, is the space to display them all. This is my 15th WW1 model and I've 49 in my 'stash' with another two on pre-order.
I should live that long!!!

Many thanks for your comments and encouragement throughout this build,

Mike

Sandbagger;

All I can say is that with quality like your builds you should ensure that your work isn't lost to posterity when you depart this world. It would be a shame to see them discarded.

Best Regards;
