There are two types of Star Wars kits available today. Bandai kits, and crappy kits. Sadly the Bandai kits are very difficult to get hold of (licencing has them not legally available in Europe), so I decided to make do with a Revell kit.
It honestly isn't a bad kit. The panel lines are nice and clear, and there's some level of detail. Not a great level of detail, but some. The entire model is about 11cm long, so a tiny little thing.
I decided to chuck out almost all the decals, and make it Blue 1 instead of Red 5, which I am quite happy with. I did mess up the engines, putting two of the 'intake' bits in upside down. I'm calling it an experimental field modification. Also don't look too closely at the Astromech
The weathering was done with oil paints, pastels, and some weathering pigments (basically pastels).

Nice! (The Bandai kits are readily available on Amazon, reasonable prices, but a bit of a wait for delivery. I've bought a load of them from various suppliers in Japan.)

cheers
Gareth

Heads up FT - I believe Revell have done a deal to rebox some Bandai kits so they'll be more easily available in Europe.
