Hi all,
I thought you might like to see the start of my next Wingnut Wings model - the Hansa-Brandenburg W.29 (CM3G version), No.2512 flown by Oberleutnant Friedrich Christian Christiansen of ’Seeflugstation 1’, from Zeebrugge in Belgium during July 1918.

So far I've completed the cockpit, which is now enclosed in the fuselage.
I'm currently modifying the Benz III engine supplied in the kit, which although good, either lacks detail or what detail is pre-molded needs to be changed.

The W.29 was a two seat float plane and as such is much larger than most of the single seaters I've built thus far.
I'm hoping to have this model on a water effects base - we'll see.

Who knows - with the release of WOTR I might have to consider WW2 kites in the future, but not right now.

Mike

Looking very good Sir! Can I assume the white stripes plastic running across the fuselage is for easy handling while painting?

Hi Rob,
Easy mistake to make given the glare on the photos.
Actually it's a metal wing spar supplied with the kit.
The model is a monoplane, but as it carried a crew of two, not to mention to large floats, the wings were necessarily large.
The metal spar is needed to support the weight of the wings,

Mike

Hi all,
The four crank case vents were cut from the photo-etch from 'RB Productions' - ‘RB Productions’ Radiator Mesh (RB-T027). These will be attached to the engine
after it has been painted, when they can be ‘weathered in’.

The engine control linkage is 0.4 mm Nickel-Silver micro-tube for the rods and 0.12 mm copper wire wound around 0.3 mm micro-tube. Again these will be fitted after the engine is installed.

Hi all,
Front end completed as well as all decals (Aviattic) and smaller parts.
Next step is to assemble the wings and floats plus what rigging is required,

I've been building 1/72 most of my life, these days mostly for 3D hands-on wargaming. Ever since I first saw some of those larger-scale models I've been thinking about it. Looking good.

Some people are born stupid. I've had to work hard my whole life to get this way. I'm proud of the job I've done

Hi all,
Well the aircraft and ground equipment are finished.
The engine access panels will be displayed as removed.
All that's left now is to paint the figures and get it all in its display case.
I'll post completion shots in this thread soon.

Sailor_Steve:
Way waaaay back I used to build in 1/72 scale, but now I stick to 1/32 scale, as I find the level of detail a challenge.
That said the only problem with this scale, especially if you're building a collection, is the space to display them all. This is my 15th WW1 model and I've 49 in my 'stash' with another two on pre-order.
I should live that long!!!

Many thanks for your comments and encouragement throughout this build,

Mike

Sandbagger;

All I can say is that with quality like your builds you should ensure that your work isn't lost to posterity when you depart this world. It would be a shame to see them discarded.

Hi Rob,
The late 'Des Delatorre', who was a great modeller and ran the WW1 Aircraft Models web site, had his collection of models donted to the 1914-18 Aviation Heritage Trust, for eventual display in the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in Marlborough, New Zealand.

https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=9656.0

I've asked 'her indoors' to try to do the same thing with my collection, as there are a couple of venues fairly local that might take them.
Hopefully that'll be a while away yet!!

Mike

Hi all,
I thought you might like to see the completed 1:32 scale build - The German ‘Hansa-Brandenburg W.29’, a twin float, two seat naval patrol aircraft. This model represents the Hansa-Bradenburg W.29 (CM3G version), No.2512 as flown by Oberleutnant Friedrich Christian Christiansen of ’Seeflugstation 1’, Zeebrugge, Belgium during July 1918.

The basic list of changes/additions to the model are:

Engine:
Exhaust pipes.
Spark plugs.
Cylinder fuel primers.
Push rods.
Valve springs.
Rocker arms.
Ignition lead support tubes.
Ignition leads.
Rear coolant pipe.
Crankcase vents.
Speed control gear.
Fuel filter pipes.

Modified or corrected:
‘GasPatch’ Spandau and Parabellum machine guns.
Gun installations.
Cockpit control cable pulleys.
Cockpit control line routing.
Cockpit flying control lines.
Pilot’s control wheel.
Throttle quadrant.
Rigging points.
Radiator top pipe.
Tachometer drive cable.
Animation of control surfaces

Aftermarket additions:
‘Gaspatch’ 1:32 scale Parabellum 14/17 machine gun (15-32069).
‘Gaspatch’ 1:32 scale ‘Spandau’ 08/15 machine guns (15-320619).
‘Aviattic’ Bleached Clear Doped Linen (ATT32044).
‘Aviattic’ German Naval Hex (faded) (ATT32113).
‘HGW Models’ fabric seat belts (132562).
‘GasPatch’ Elite Accessories Turnbuckles.
‘Copper State Models’ 1:32 scale German Naval Crew (F32-034).
‘Copper State Models’ 1:32 scale German Naval Ground Crew (F32-037).
‘Coastal Kits’ 1:32 scale Abandoned Airfield Display Base (modified for 3D effect).

As usual I've created a downloadable build log in Adobe PDF format, for those who might want to refer to it for reference or build details. It contains full step by step descriptions of the model build, its modifications/changes and is also supported with illustrations and photographs. If viewed in Adobe Reader, each build log has book marked chapters/headings for easier navigation through the log.
My model website has the gallery page, so to view any model, go to the gallery and select it. If it has a PDF build log, it will be available to download using the 'PDF' icon on that models photo's page. For any photograph, just click the photo to enlarge or reduce the viewing size.

My next model will be the ‘Wingnut Wings’ Sopwith F1 Camel (modified version) of the Canadian ace William Barker.

Very nice!

Some people are born stupid. I've had to work hard my whole life to get this way. I'm proud of the job I've done

Sandbagger;

That's another superb piece of work Sir! Very impressive indeed. It seems that it just barely fits into the case. I was expecting that you would have to have one specially made to hold it.
I will have to look at your build log as I am particularly interested in how you addressed the shore line.

Best Regards;

Thanks guys.

Rob:
The case was made specifically for this model, as all my model display cases are. Not cheap but great protection from the dust.
This is my first use of display mats from 'Coastal Kits'.
They are very good - photographs on vinyl surface and 'Foamtex' base board.
The only thing is they are 'flat' so I've modified the mat to add '3D' effects, such as concrete cracks, grass tufts, stones, logs and a sand surface.
I think it helps create a more convincing look to the display.

Must move on - another model in the hanger. yep

That is a beautiful model of an interesting bird. Almost makes me want to fire up ROF and fly its cousin, the W12. Almost. Thanks for sharing Sandbagger. So, what’s next sitting on your workbench?

From out of my arse take the camshaft,
And assemble the engine again."
