I also only have IL2 Stalingrad on Steam but only because it had a big discount. Basically if i can have any game outside of Steam i choose that. GOG is my fav game seller plus i love Paradox games and they do not require Steam to play.

The launcher is a great way to stay organized. Even if a game I have isn’t on Steam, I’ll add it to the launcher to keep it organized with everything else and categorized. I don’t like desktop icons, so it’s nice this way. Otherwise I’ll likely forget I even have whatever it is. LOL It’s nice to have updates set to run at 3am with unlimited bandwidth. With the size of updates these days, it’s really convenient.
What’s the question about? Is there a sim you’re looking for?

I was just curious to see how many people play flight sims via Steam so maybe I could get a rough idea if maybe Steam has helped increase the visibility/popularity of the genre.

Even though flight sims are not exactly popular at the moment, I would say Steam helps. From their recommendations etc it must attract new players. I would not of known about CAP 2 without Steam.

IMO Steam saved pc gaming regardless of genre. People mainly went to consoles for the ease of use and convenience. No more “update your c++ redistributables”, patching the games and other crap that was such a hassle years ago. Doesn’t mean people couldn’t do it, it just sucked. Not to mention easy convenient downloads which were never handled as well before. Sadly, they’ve got their heads in their butts mixing in crap indie titles, dlc and early access wannabees with decent games in the release list.

IMO Steam saved pc gaming regardless of genre. . Yes that can be argued but I chose flight sims specifically since it was already a niche genre compared to other genres like RPGs and first person shooters even before Steam came along. Flight sims are also (in theory a least) the main reason why SimHQ was created in the first place.

That is so true. The store is a trash can with tons of garbage. Plus i really dislike the client itself. It's ugly, runs poorly IMHO and has very little customization options.

I have all mine on Steam except for DCS.
I do have a DCSW account on Steam but it's not my main account and I can't figure out how to change it or I'd have DCS on there too.

RoF, BoS and DCS are all non steam for me. It wasnt that I didnt want to buy them on steam it was that they were not as good of a deal on steam or the company specifically did things to make me not want to buy them on steam. For instance, when I got BoS it wasnt on steam and each of the DLC if you bought them on steam you couldnt do the beta. You had to wait for the IL2 team to do a full release. I think that is different now but originally they just made it impossible to play the content I owned and use steam. DCS was the same way. They released beta modules that didnt appear on steam. Though I stopped buying any DCS stuff because they changed their license method and half of my modules I cant use anymore. My Blackshark and a10 were upgrade modules from original steam purchases and steam doesnt give License keys anymore so there is no way to activate my upgrade modules through dcs world and they refuse to supply me with functional keys. Im not going to spend money on a company that does stuff like that. I've got CLOD on steam though. KSP on steam and all my racing sims except LFS are on steam. (even linked my iRacing account to steam, but I launch through the website but steam tracks my usage statistics and lets people spectate without me fiddling with twitch hosting. Steam is just such a great program. Though their new friends list sucks. I wish they would revert back to the old friends list/ap. It worked so much better than this new junk. If it isnt broken dont fix it but if you try to make sure what you provide #%&*$# works at least!
