Watched the video and decided to check google map for a satellite image to see what it looks like today.

Lake Karachay

One day the West will fall. But if the Liberty for which we fight is taken up by the world then the West will not have failed.

That's good. Can let the kids roam freely on the shores while sunbathing.

Cheers,

Man, and here I thought the Great Lakes were really bad!

Neat. The fish are already cooked when one catches them.

No fish. Lake is completely dry and back filled. Horrible environmental disaster.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

The video gives the Soviets a complete pass on what they did, saying they didn't know the effects of radiation. They damned well did know; they just didn't care.

It is entirely implausible that they were reckless and careless with the nuclear waste out of ignorance - long before the people would become sick, the scientists - if they were initially ignorant - would be the first to suffer, and in catastrophic ways, just as our scientists did.

We learned pretty quickly just how hazardous nuclear materials were; some of the original researchers paid with their lives in a quick and gruesome manner to teach the others.

It's not like the Soviets weren't doing their own research, including the basics of nuclear materials, and were completely lost when their spies filled in some of the missing pieces. Hell, they scooped up German scientists at the end of WWII just like we did.

It is notable that they knew they had to cool the storage tanks underground. That they didn't maintain it isn't a matter of ignorance, it's of not caring enough to maintain it.

And it's not a lesson they learned very well. Chernobyl was completely man-made and avoidable, for instance. There were a lot of willful actions that lead to that meltdown.
