Hi guys!

Just thought I'd introduce myself...I'm *very* late to the party, but I finally got WOFF UE after hearing great things about its campaign. I was turned onto WOFF by a fellow Rise of Flight pilot.

I've done a couple fly-outs to get a feel for the game, and I think I may try my hand at a DiD Career! (Is there a 'proper' way to go about that, or do I just chuck myself into the war whenever and hope for the best?)

Oh, and also: If there are any 'must-have' mods, please let me know!!

Anyway, I look forwards to meeting you all. (P.S: Any tips are welcome! wink )

Check out the DID campaign thread in the Stickies. The rules are on the first page. New pilots are always welcome! Just remember, the new guy buys the drinks.

Wait until I'm back from my first sortie before we sort the drinks... wink

P.S. Going for a full-real DiD campaign with No.10 RFC, starting in July 1915 (in at the deep end, and all that...) shame the old DiD pilot rankings are no more, I would have loved to see them!

Hiya Wulfe! You are never too late to the party - glad to have you with us. I've been flying WOFF:UE for a while now and I'm still scratching the surface of what the sim has to offer. Sounds like you are taking a serious plunge - 1915 is a tricky period but at least it's not as crowded up there just yet! Best of luck to your intrepid flier and keep us posted on his progress! Upon his return, I'll take a Guinness!

Cheers!

Welcome Wolfie! I came over from ROF myself, you won't be sorry you crossed over. Both games have their points but I like the immersion in WOFF more and the AI alone makes it worth it, you feel like your fighting someone with some sense, more sense than myself for the most part.

I would recommend the WOFF US Missions Mods
WOFF UE Balloon Archie Mods (just out)
WOFF UE Effects Mod, I like the tracers in this mode, although the tracers in this game don't leave the spider web trails you had in ROF, these are pretty good

Good flying to you.

Jerbear

I second Jerbear and I'll add that the Blue Triangle Mod is a must have - smooths out the fps and inherent stutters in the game beautifully on my rig.

Thanks for the heads-up guys! Unfortunately (No doubt due to something I did wrong) the mods knackered my install....a quick re-install and a longer, harder look at the instructions required wink

I expect that may be the untimely end of my DiD career (And he was only 30 mins away from transferring out of No.10 as well!) but that gives me a chance to start off a bit later...I'll start a new career as a B.E.2 pilot in December 1915...that should keep me on my toes wink

When you uninstall WOFF be sure to follow the instructions in section 17 of the FAQ file.

It is also highly recommended that you use JSGME to enable your mods (does not apply to the Mission Editor mod though).

Wulfe;

Don't forget to download the "User Files Backup Utility" from the "Tools" section of the mods page. If you had used that, you would have been able to restore all your pilots and your personal settings. Go look at it and read the "ReadMe" file before using it.

Welcome, Wulfe! Nice to have you with us.

If you're starting in a BE2C then keep a wary eye (and ear) out for those annoying Fokker EIIIs. Good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone...

So far, the career seems to be going okay. I've done 2 out of my 3 hours on B.E.2s without much incident (save for an inconclusive quarrel with an Aviatik), and hope to graduate to a scout squadron soon...hopefully before I run into an eindecker!

On a side note, how easy is it to create a custom user skin? One of my favourite parts of my SP careers in RoF was painting up my machine!

Wolfe,
Welcome to WOFF. If you search Rick Rawlings skinning tutorial here you will find an excellent tutorial to produce your own skin. It’s so easy I can do it! As for the DID, it is a blast. If I am correct, you will fly today’s date in 1918 or 6 months prior for a start date of March 1918. Still gives you plenty of time to die multiple times. Welcome to the fray.

Much obliged, MFair! I started my DiD today (the 14th)...made my trip over the Channel and even bagged a D.F.W later in the day!!

...that's before I remembered the 'start out on two-seaters' rule....gutted!!!
