Hey guys...some may remember me, some not...(many years ago I created Nachtjager for the old EAW with much help from Ajay and Crashing Jack)
EAW was my very first sim and I have many fond memories of it as no other has ever had the same atmosphere, in my opinion..
the music, briefings etc all added to the immersion and all sims since have never captured this, for me anyway...
My question is, in this modern world, can one load up a version of EAW and fly the original campaign with all the briefings, screens
Etc like one used to...or is this not possible anymore without a very old legacy machine running win98 or XP..
would love to fly it for nostalgias sake for a lil while as it seems my new
Love cliffs of Dover has died out of late unfortunately...
some years back I tried out Jelly’s fantastic updates to the game however due to the
Lack of the stock campaigns and their bells and whistles I got bored quickly so don’t really want to go down that route again..

As always, any help appreciated...TheTonester

Hi Tonester,

sure I remember you. There's a small chance your Operating System can run the original game through a NoOS check version which takes care of the ''not a win32 app'' and ''will not run under WinNT'' error messages. All new versions of EAW have tthat in already but are heavily modified. The least modded NoOS version is v1.26 by Sydbod and available at Sandbaggers.

If you can run that patch then there are multiple options open. If it gives you a 7217 error then you'll have to use a wrapper, most popular to my knowledge is the 3D Windower program which runs the game in a fixed window instead of full screen. You'll have to learn how to set that program up and once it's done there are again multiple options open.

There is a range of versions starting with 1.28 all the way to v1.60, which are kind of OAW style interfaced and come with various addons included.

Then there's the new version of the FXEXE called EAWPRO, which kept the original game interface intact and can be downgraded to run the original v1.2 campaigns through an additional addon over the patched version. It is also heavily modified but the v1.2 campaign removes most of the included new theatre, called Battle Over The Reich, and restores the original flightmodels, targets and frontlines.

The upgraded game installs by extracting a .ZIP into any official version of the game and there's no need to run it before patching. Once it is patched you best reboot and see if it's working for you, with or without the 3D windower wrapper. When it works you can then apply the downgrade addon the same way, extract into the game folder, reboot and see if it works. There's a very good chance it will, as it's been tested on all platforms with a very high successrate.

Installing the 3D windower program will probably be the tougher thing to do, but there's Mark's EAW helpsite with good information on most game versions and the 3D windower program, you best orientate yourself there and read about the options you have. This is the link to Mark's Help site:

https://eaw.neocities.org/fxexe-patches.html

He has all the downloads you need for EAWPRO, If you need any help or encounter any issues you can post them here and I'm sure things can be sorted out with a bit of patience.

Hi Tonester

Which operating system do you want to run EAW on, and what is your graphic card?

Cheers

Jel
