Here's the REAL LOL for today:

I wonder if he'll be held to the same standards he holds everyone else in the sport to?

Regardless of whether someone is in the public eye or just an everyday Joe, it just dumbfounds me that there are still people stupid enough who drive under the influence. How many deaths of innocent pedestrians and other drivers will it take before people stop doing that?

I guess it's just another Darwinian tool to reduce the gene pool.

But unfortunately more times than not the innocent bystander is the one that pays the price.

Drunk driving aside he should have been arrested years ago for what he did to NASCAR.

Well, duh, the substance impairs judgment, so yeah, you literally become much, much dumber while you are under the influence. That's the whole point of it... wink

Over here I'm shocked about the amount of driving under the influence that goes on, it seems to be the norm to drink all evening /night then drive home.

I've seen it where a person does get arrested and convicted, loses his driving licence but because he needs to drive for work then he can continue to do so, they just can't drive for social purposes. They have toughened the up the law a bit in that now if you have a driving licence and you are caught under the influence with a bicycle then you still lose your driving licence.

Here, at least in Ontario, under the influence while boating will get one demerit points.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

With the state of the roads these days with cellphone addicts may as well just legalize drunk driving.

Sucks to be decades ahead of the curve. Because that's where we're at with that crap - in the 1950's drunk driving was barely starting to be recognized as the DEADLY problem that it is. Took a lot of dead bodies to sink it into the collective skulls of society.

But hey, laws don't stop anything so why have them?

Drive around on a Friday or Saturday night and look at all the bars with full parking lots. Now picture in your mind how many of them are going to be driven by legally impaired drivers later in the evening. I wonder if there ever has been a study done to see what percentage of cars on the rode during these nights are driven by legally impaired drivers. I would take a wild guess of about 25%.

So true Zamzow. When 9 watched my friend get hit by a panel truck (he lived, broken leg**). If I had not looked a 3rd time I would have been the hood ornament. It was estimated he was going ~60mph in a 30mph zone. The driver was drunk and got away scot free except for the memory that he had hit a child.

** his foot got caught between the bumper and the fender and it was winter

Nothing compared to cellphone addicts behind the wheel. Drunk drivers are the last thing I worry about while riding my motorcycle. I see maybe two drunken sloshers on the road per year. I see HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS of cellphone addicts every DAY.

Just last month I had to swerve from TWO of them driving on the WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD.

Oh I so badly wish I could SHOOT them.

My EMT friends tell me they see more "distracted driver" accidents than drunk driving now. It depends on the time and day. When I worked afternoons, the drive home when the bars were getting out was a real eye opener.

You can get a DUI on a riding lawnmower in Ontario as well. I heard of a guy who got nailed cutting his ditch, which is county property.

Totally agree. I haven't watched a Nascar race in I don't know how many years. I am almost tempted to buy some kind of 70s, 80s collection that shows all of the races. If that exists. Back when the Allisons, the Earnhardts, the Pettys and Yarborough Bros were tearing it up!!!
