Looking to start game on Win7 (preferred) or Win 10. Have original CD. Am not entirely ignorant about getting old games to run on modern OSs, but would appreciate some help.

Thanks, Russ. The game has installed OK, and I've patched it up to V1.2.3, IIRC, although got msg that patches might not have installed correctly. Game Specs show latest version of patch listed in game description.

The only problem I'm having is that the joystick is not working at all ( Logitech extreme 3D. All keyboard commands work OK. The same joystick worked with this game, IIRC, on a Win Me machine.

The other odd thing is that there is nothing that looks like an config file, for the game itself. I've rummaged through all of the likely files, and opened them all, bit to no avail.

I wish there were some place with additional patches that was still live. I have the 1.1 and 1.2.3 patches from file planet, but that's about all I can find. I see others referenced though.

Bob that's it for patches as far as I know the .85 or whatever is mostly for track IR..Check your in game settings to make sure it's set to stick and found this with a search.. Make sure that your joystick is set to be used in older games as the default control device under the control panel in W7.can't figure out how to do that no options in control panel and some one suggested dumping the logitec drivers and using the native windows ones..got the same stick i'll give a go at installing it and get back to you..I'm running a full SF2 merged install with the Korean Air War mod from combat ace and it's outstanding

Still haven't found anything like a .config file for the game. One thing I'm thinking is to maybe plug the joystick into the old-time analog plug socket on the back of the machine. This game's so old that maybe it's only looking for an attached joystick at that location, and not searching for a USB stick. Will try tomorrow.

I have set up in game preferences for the joystick, and triple-checked the settings. Everything works, except for multiplayer (naturally) and the @%&#$ joystick. Even Maps button works OK.

No joy in setting compatibility to Win98/ME or to any other version of Windows, including suggested WinXP, SP 2.

If your stick is usb how can you plug it into an analog jack ??..I'm doing an install now I'll let you know what happens,,Look for a menu in game for controllers and not a config file

Whose advice in the link should I be following? Will uninstalling the Logitech drivers affect how the joystick works with other games? Not sure by what you mean by "Added the 1.23 drivers" Do you mean another set of drivers for joystick, or the V1.2.3 patch?

So, copy CD to folder on c drive, add V1.1 and V1.2.3 patches, and then start game from EXE in dummy folder, correct?

Russ, I'm a little confused by some of the instructions.

Took this section out of the whole set of instructions:

"0 "C:\rowan\mig"
1 "C:\rowan\mig"
2 "C:\rowan\mig"
3 "C:\rowan\mig"

4 0 .
5 1 .
6 2 .

7 0 .
8 1 .
9 2 artwork"

So, Am I to copy/modify existing stuff already there exactly as written in the set of instructions? I know this sounds a bit dense of me, but just asking.

FWIW, joystick does not appear to be using Logitech drivers; documentation on computer says that drivers are those provided by Microsoft. IOW, no mention of Logitech drivers for joystick(s).

Thanks so much for all your help!

OK, edited "Root" folder exactly as suggested in the above instructions. In fact, did everything the instructions did, to the letter, except I cannot find patch "BDG Migalley v.0.85f, and so could not install it. Can anyone help with finding that patch, or send me a direct link to it?

ETA: I found the "v.0.85F" patch using wayback machine and a mediafire URL. Here is a link:
https://web.archive.org/web/2018081...e/i0d3bo25slj73wu/BDG_MiGAlley_0.85F.rar

V1.23 patch can be obtained on File Planet, after search for "Mig Alley" Link here: https://www.fileplanet.com/41164/40000/fileinfo/Mig-Alley-v1.23.

I now have a copy, and will install it later on. My initial mistake might have been installing first OEM patch (V1.02?), then v1.23 patch. If installing the v.0.85F patch fails to enable joystick, I'll copy certain files, uninstall, and then re-install using the exact procedure contained in your instructions.

Very close at this point; can sort of fly the game using the mouse, but it's tricky. Wish me luck!

Final ETA: Success! Adding V.0.85 did the trick! Had to jigger with in-game joystick settings to get it to work properly, but the plane is flyable and controllable. Even made a landing, but over-ran runway and crashed.

I have cross-linked this thread to the other thread, linked above, and added some relevant links to it: http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.p...nstall-problems-win-7-64-bit#Post4434141

Thanks for all the help! Much obliged!
